This opportunity resides with Warfare Systems (WS), a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. Warfare Systems comprises cyber and mission IT; electronic warfare; and C5ISR systems.

Job Description
HII is seeking an experienced Mechanical Drawing Drafter to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating detailed technical drawings, and documentation for mechanical components, assemblies, and systems in support of engineering and manufacturing operations.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed mechanical drawings, schematics, and layouts using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar)
- Create and maintain 3D models and 2D drawings of mechanical parts and assemblies in SolidWorks PDM.
- Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and verbal instructions to produce accurate technical drawings
- Ensure all drawings comply with industry standards (ASME Y14.5 2018) and company drafting standards
- Perform tolerance analysis and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) applications
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and manufacturing personnel to identify design issues
- Review and check drawings for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to specifications
- Maintain and update drawing databases, templates, and revision control systems
- Generate Bill of Materials (BOM) and parts lists
- Support manufacturing by providing drawing clarifications and technical assistance
- Participate in design reviews and provide drafting expertise
Minimum Qualifications
- Associates Degree or other 2 year technical degree in in Drafting Technology, Mechanical Design, or related field and 3 years of related mechanical drafting experience; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years related mechanical drafting experience.
- Proven track record with complex mechanical assemblies and systems
- Experience in [defense, aerospace, manufacturing, etc.]
- Advanced proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PDM)
- Strong understanding of GD&T principles and application
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, welding, fabrication, etc.)
- Familiarity with PDM systems
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance
Preferred Requirements
- Associates Degree in Drafting Technology, Mechanical Design, or related field with 5+ years of DoD mechanical drafting experience
- DoD Secret Level Clearance
