Job Description

HII is looking for a technical editor and writer to support AFRL/IZO in developing marketing and operational support documentation. This position writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals. Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. Conducts quality review of materials.

This effort will help AFRL IZO leadership with strategic planning of resources and tasking to support other AFRL technical directorates.  

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Shall develop and implement technical documentation and strategic communication material that align with Department of the Air Force (DAF), Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), and Digital Capabilities Directorate (DCD) goals and objectives.
  • Shall conduct research and analysis to support technical documentation, including identification of best practices and tools.
  • Shall develop and maintain documentation templates and processes.
  • Shall design and maintain content calendars to manage key outreach activities.
  • Shall research, write, and edit technical documentation, including digital products and service menus, digital guides, blogs, success stories, activity reports, training material, and other online content.
  • Shall research, write, and edit customer outreach and strategic communication documentation, including articles, fact sheets, brochures, press releases, and social media content.
  • Shall translate complex technical information into easily understandable language.
  • Shall collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather information and ensure accuracy of technical documentation.
  • Shall follow a documented content review and approval process.
  • Shall leverage and modify existing communication content into several mediums (i.e., presentations, PDFs, etc.).
  • Shall maintain and update existing documentation to reflect changes in digital products or services. 
  • Shall manage documentation repositories and ensure version control.
  • Shall follow established branding, style guides, and documentation standards to ensure consistency across all communication materials.
  • Shall monitor, analyze, and report on documentation effectiveness, providing key metrics and recommendations for improvement.
  • Shall implement feedback from users and incorporate it into documentation updates.
  • Shall assist with the execution of programmatic deliverables, to include analyzing and reporting on documentation, program effectiveness, providing key metrics and recommendations for improvement

Minimum Qualifications

6 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 4 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 years relevant experience.

 

  • Must be proficient in using the Microsoft Office Suite and related tools, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Must possess an active Secret or can obtain a Secret clearance
