Job Description

The Autonomy and Navigation Technology (ANT) Center located at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) at Wright-Patterson AFB, is looking for a motivated and talented individual to serve as a Research Engineer. The successful candidate will have graduated from a major university or college with at Master's or PhD in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with a 3.0 GPA or higher. The candidate must be a self-sufficient and an independent professional.

Essential Job Responsibilities

The Research Engineer will be a key member of the research staff supporting ANT Center faculty and graduate students to support and drive the software and tooling of the Center's cutting-edge research and development projects. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Design, develop, and test computer software in support of research requirements
  • Work with faculty, students and research engineers to develop new algorithms and tooling that support the various autonomy and advanced navigation research projects
  • Integrate various technologies, such as commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and government off-the-shelf (GOTS) hardware and software, to support specific research needs
  • Support Cl/CD pipelines and repository maintenance to ensure availability of software tooling
  • Reviews and tests software components for adherence to the design requirements and documents test results
  • Ability to work in-person and remote

Minimum Qualifications

  • 0 years experience with Bachelors in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years relevant experience.
  • Must be U.S. Citizen, with active Secret clearance or ability to obtain one

  • Experience in software design, development, coding, testing and debugging
  • Solid foundation in object-oriented design, programming, and requirements development
  • Experience in a variety of programming languages, but strong in Python, C++, and C.
  • Experience with Ubuntu Linux, git, and Docker
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • The candidate should demonstrate a hands-on approach to problem-solving and must be willing to actively participate in the evaluation of algorithm and system performance

Preferred Requirements

  • Active Secret clearance at the time of application 

Physical Requirements

May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
