Job Description

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) Mission Technologies Warfare Systems partners with the DoD and defense innovation ecosystem to rapidly acquire and field critical and emerging technologies, particularly integrated communications, networking, and Systems-of-Systems (SoS) technologies, to enhance national security and warfighter capabilities. Through a multiagency contracting approach, the Collaborative Operations for Battlespace Resilient Architecture (COBRA) initiative focuses on advancing these technologies to achieve multi-domain battlespace integration and resilient command and control. This includes a broad range of services such as systems engineering, cybersecurity, operational integration, and data analytics, all aimed at modernizing communications and ensuring seamless information exchange for the DoD and its allies.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Leverages Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies to streamline system design and integration to maintain effective C2. Facilitates Joint Operations and Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) connectivity within networks. Proficient with servers and switch hardware systems. Tests for equipment failure using model-driven approaches to identify and address potential issues before deployment. Analyzes problems and provides resolutions for hardware and software issues through MBSE frameworks, enhancing system robustness and traceability. Designs and implements cost- effective and adaptable systems using open architectures that employ standard interfaces and protocols using approaches (e.g., Modular Open System Approaches (MOSA), Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA), and various SoS) engineering methodologies. When applicable, these engineering efforts may incorporate design frameworks like Digital Engineering and MBSE, along with Agile and DevSecOps practices in accordance with relevant policies and guidance across operational scenarios. Uses Verification and Validation (V&V) and Test and Evaluation (T&E) methodologies. Works within Government Reference Architectures and unified data standards to produce designs and configurations. Conducts Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) obsolescence evaluation and mitigation, including assessments of parts, supplier, materials, and software obsolescence vulnerability; Bill of Materiel (BoM) monitoring using DMSMS tools (e.g., Obsolescence Management Information System (OMIS), Horizons, and Government-Industry Data Exchange Program (GIDEP)), engineering analysis of form-fit replacement and performance qualification. Works with cross-functional team to interpret simulation/emulation, analyze redesigns (Del. 16) using Technical Design Specifications (Del. 18) for immediate and future insertions. Develops and maintains a structured process to capture lessons learned from technology development, prototyping, testing, and experimentation and synthesize into actionable insights and recommendations for application across related projects (TDLs) or enterprise initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field
  • Must possess an active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Strong understanding of system development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Ability to analyze complex technical problems and propose effective solutions

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with DoD systems and acquisition lifecycle
  • Proficiency with systems modeling or simulation tools
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
