Job Description

Mission Technologies (MT), a division of HII, is seeking to hire a Senior Technician to support operations at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL).  

 

This full-time position is on-site at NRL on the Maryland side of the Potomac near the southern-most part of  Washington DC.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Performs a variety of duties in the electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and/or optical areas. Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, diagnoses, and maintains equipment, components, devices, or systems. Works from schematics, engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions. Operates related equipment; conducts tests and reports data in prescribed format. Performs calibration and alignment checks; makes adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed; prepares prescribed compounds and solutions. Exclude technicians working in production or quality assurance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 3 years of related experience; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years related experience
  • Maintenance of large vacuum systmes and familiarity with high voltage capacitor systems 
  • Experience determining supply requirements, ordering, picking up materials required for efficient performance of work under the contract, and managing junior technical staff in the performance of their duties 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US level Secret clearance 

 

Preferred Requirements

  • Machine shop, forklift and crane experience 
  • Experience in drafting and machine tool operation 
  • An active US level Secret clearance 

Physical Requirements

Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions. Shop, shipboard, warehouse, industrial environment. May be exposed to fumes and irritants including welding/burning fumes, paints, oils, greases and various cleaning solutions and solvents, noise, high heat and humidity hazards while wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
