This opportunity resides with All-Domain Operations (ADO), a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. All-Domain Operations comprises multi-domain operations, platforms and logistics, and intelligence operations.

HII designs, develops, integrates and manages the sensors, systems and other assets necessary to support integrated ISR operations and accelerated decision-making. Who We Are

HII – Mission Technologies is seeking a Data Scientist. The Data Scientist provides advanced analytic, data‑science, and data‑engineering support to identify, coordinate, harvest, and expose relevant data sources in support of mission‑partner data‑integration requirements. This role develops and applies quality and confidence methodologies to ensure that newly acquired data is properly processed, validated, and optimized for downstream analytical use. The Data Scientist contributes to the design and refinement of analytical techniques, supports schema development, and ensures that new data sources are properly aligned to evolving data architectures. The position also conducts long‑term data and trend analysis to identify systemic vulnerabilities and high‑priority threats, informing strategies to mitigate supply chain risks and enhance mission resilience. Additional responsibilities include recommending best practices for the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) capabilities.

This requisition supports hiring at multiple experience levels. Final placement will be determined based on the selected applicant’s qualifications, experience, and skill sets.

What You Will Do

  • Identify, coordinate, harvest, and expose relevant data sources to support mission‑partner data‑integration requirements.
  • Develop or apply quality and confidence methods to enhance data processing and maximize analytical utility of new and novel data sources.
  • Support the development of new analytical techniques and the refinement of existing ones to ensure extraction of maximum value from diverse datasets.
  • Contribute to data‑schema development, revision, and maintenance, ensuring new data sources are properly mapped to established structures.
  • Conduct long‑term data and trend analyses to identify systemic vulnerabilities, emerging risks, and high‑priority threats.
  • Recommend actionable strategies to mitigate threats and challenges across the supply chain.
  • Provide expert guidance on best practices for implementing AI and ML capabilities to enhance analytical performance and mission outcomes.
  • Collaborate with mission partners, analysts, and technical teams to ensure data solutions align with operational objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Level 2: 2 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 0 years experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years relevant experience. 
  • Level 3: 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience. 
  • Level 4: 9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience. 
  • Level 5: 15 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 13 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 10 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 19 years relevant experience. 
  • Experience harvesting, validating, structuring, and integrating diverse data sources, including structured and unstructured data.
  • Strong understanding of data‑quality assessment methods, confidence metrics, and preprocessing techniques.
  • Experience developing or optimizing analytical techniques and applying statistical or machine‑learning methods to extract insights.
  • Familiarity with data‑schema design, data modeling, and integration architectures. 
  • Ability to conduct long‑term trend and vulnerability analysis to identify systemic risks.
  • Understanding of supply chain vulnerabilities, threat identification, risk assessment, or similar mission areas (preferred but can be trained). 
  • Working knowledge of AI/ML concepts, implementation best practices, and model evaluation. 
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking skills. 
  • Excellent communication abilities, with experience translating technical findings into actionable insights for non‑technical audiences. 
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced, mission‑focused environment. 
  • Ability to work independently and within cross‑functional teams in a fast‑paced, mission‑driven environment. 
  • Clearance: Must possess and maintain a Top-Secret clearance.

Physical Requirements

May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
