Job Description

Huntington Ingalls Industries Defense and Federal Solutions Technical Solutions Division in Virginia Beach, VA is currently seeking a highly motivated individual with extensive software development/engineering experience in order to design, develop, test, and integrate emerging technologies that deliver Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training capabilities to the U.S. Navy customer.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities (to include but not limited to the following):

  • Design, develop, and implement Live, Virtual, Construction (LVC) software applications in support of U.S. Navy Fleet Synthetic Training (FST).
  • Integrate software with other Department of Defense (DoD) Modeling and Simulation (M&S) systems, as well as, Government Off-The-Shelf (GOTS) and Commercial Off-The-Shelf hardware and software.
  • Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex system engineering issues related to software, hardware, network, etc. components of the experimentation test bed.
  • Proficient in the use of Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Software development using C, C++, C# or other object-oriented programming languages, as required.
  • Software development within a classified work environment.
  • Support the complete software life cycle within an agile development environment.
  • Adherence to DoD Cyber Security policies and procedures.
  • Work closely, collaboratively, and communicate effectively with all members of the project team including government personnel and contractors.
  • Ability to work independently on projects with minimal supervision, complete projects with compressed deadlines, and offer recommendations to the project team in order to improve the technical solution.
  • Travel to support test events, meetings, and trade shows within CONUS.

Minimum Qualifications

5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in Computer Science or Software Engineering; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.

  • Must have recent experience in software engineering using Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Must have demonstrated experience writing well-documented, reusable code in C, C++, C#, or other object-oriented programming languages.
  • Must have demonstrated experience as a software engineer or project lead of software engineering projects.
  • Must reside within commuting distance of the work location in Virginia Beach, VA. Relocation allowance is not provided for the position.
  • Must be eligible to complete a comprehensive background investigation in order to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance during the period of performance of the contract.
  • Must be willing to travel to locations within CONUS up to 20%.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Requirements

  • Demonstrated software engineering experience utilizing Joint Semi-Automated Forces (JSAF) and Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) in support of U.S. Navy FST is considered a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in software development using the Unity 3D application and knowledge of Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies is considered a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience using High Level Architecture (HLA) and Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) protocols is considered a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience with network programming and implementing TCP/UDP network applications is considered a plus.
  • Exceptional organizational, multi-tasking, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Innovative problem solving and debugging skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks through self-directed time management and organization.
  • Eager and proactive in learning new skills through independent research, collaboration with team members, through corporate training opportunities, and other resources.
  • Demonstrated experience working with DoD customers, projects, and processes.
  • Possess an active Secret clearance or higher within the past 5 years.

Physical Requirements

Office, industrial, or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders, tolerating confined spaces, and adapting to outdoor/indoor temperatures variances may be required on an infrequent basis.Lifting and moving of material may be required on an infrequent basis.
