Summary

Join HII as we keep the world's most powerful Navy afloat! The Fleet Sustainment team is looking for a Senior Combat Systems Engineer. This position focuses on systems integration management with an emphasis on naval combat systems installation, overhaul, upgrade, and integration in accordance with the applicable Statement of Work. The role supports engineering activities by collecting and analyzing technical data, preparing engineering documentation, and performing precise calculations to inform technical decision-making within complex combat‑systems integration efforts.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks.
  • Gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.
  • Produce engineering documentation, reports, and drawings, including flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics.
  • Perform detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas and preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided, including quantitative judgments concerning technical data.
  • Use personal computer applications in performance of analyses and development of documentation and reports; may conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
  • Provide direction and guidance to lower-level non-exempt employees; often serve as lead worker on assigned tasks.
  • Coordinate with shipyards, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and other subcontractors to support execution of systems installation, overhaul, and upgrade work packages.
  • Support configuration management activities documenting the current status of ships, systems, and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Eight (8) years of increasing systems integration management responsibility, including at least five (5) years of specific naval combat systems installation, overhaul, and upgrade or integration experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or business-related field. 
  • Advanced knowledge in specialized engineering functions, with a wide and comprehensive acquaintance with both general and specific aspects of the job and their practical application to complex problems and situations ordinarily encountered.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Must be a US citizen. 
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, including extended stays in support of overseas customer engagements.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain base access and CAC card. 

Preferred Requirements

  • Foreign Military Sales (FMS) experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting multi-site or complex naval programs, including shipbuilding/overhaul environments.
  • Experience with legacy combat systems such as the MK 92 Fire Control System.
  • Experience supporting international customer engagements involving foreign government information and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) handling requirements.
  • A current or active DoD security clearance. 

Physical Requirements

Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the job. A waterfront office work environment is normally encountered.
