Job Description
This is an UNPAID internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. DoD SkillBridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership. HII Mission Technologies Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full-time regular and permanent job with HII.
Objective
The Skillbridge intern will train as a Mission Coordinator within HII-Mission Technologies, reporting to a designated HII Supervisor, with the goal of learning Mission Coordinator basics and principles to support the Navy Integrated Training Environment (NITE). This training program will provide the intern with a solid foundation in mission coordination, tactical training range operations, and military training support, preparing them for potential employment opportunities within HII Mission Technologies or similar organizations in the defense industry. The intern will be assigned special projects as needed.
Desired End State (3–4-month target)
At the end of four months, the intern will gain comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience in mission coordination, tactical training range operations, and military training support, preparing them for a potential career in defense technology and training systems.
Mission Coordination and Planning
- Understand the process of coordinating flight schedules and training requirements.
- Learn to interpret and manage live mission data.
- Develop skills in creating and presenting briefings on range capabilities and operations.
Tactical Training Range Operations
- Gain proficiency in operating display consoles and conducting equipment demonstrations.
- Learn to perform Range Training Officer (RTO) functions.
- Understand the process of implementing and distributing mission scenarios.
Military Training Support and Analysis
- Develop skills in analyzing and evaluating military training exercises and simulations.
- Learn to apply military tactics, techniques, and procedures (MTTP) to system design.
- Understand the process of assessing programmatic and technical options against user requirements.
Communication and Customer Service
- Enhance oral and written communication skills for military and government audiences.
- Learn to solicit and incorporate customer feedback.
- Develop skills in creating post-mission debriefing products.
Technical Systems and Troubleshooting
- Gain familiarity with various technical systems used in tactical training environments.
- Develop basic troubleshooting skills for multiple systems.
- Learn to read and interpret technical information related to training systems.
Mission Technologies will benefit from the military background of the Skillbridge intern and considers the Skillbridge internship an overall positive experience.
Assumptions/Restrictions
- Candidate must have a current/active Secret Security Clearance.
- Skillbridge Intern will be available during core hours for critical meetings and training

Training Plan
Week 1: Orientation & Introduction
- Company orientation and overview of HII Mission Technologies
- Introduction to TTR and NITE
- Basic security protocols and clearance procedures
- Overview of mission coordination role and responsibilities
- Introduction to key team members and departments
Week 2: Mission Coordination Basics
- Learn flight scheduling processes and tools
- Introduction to tactical training range operations
- Understand airspace and air traffic control coordination
- Shadow experienced Mission Coordinators
- Milestone: Complete basic mission coordination knowledge assessment
Week 3: Live Mission Data Management & Briefing Skills
- Introduction to live/L-16 Inject-to-Live (LITL) mission data
- Learn data interpretation from RTOs
- Practice entering mission data accurately
- Learn to create effective briefings on range capabilities and operations
- Milestone: Successfully enter and validate a sample mission dataset
Week 4: Presentation Skills & Display Console Operations
- Practice presenting to military and government audiences
- Develop skills in creating visual aids and presentation materials
- Hands-on training with display console equipment
- Milestone: Deliver a mock briefing to the team
Week 5: RTO Functions & Scenario Management
- In-depth study of RTO responsibilities
- Shadow experienced RTOs during live missions
- Learn to develop and distribute mission scenarios
- Milestone: Perform RTO functions in a supervised live mission
Week 6: Scenario Management & Military Training Analysis
- Practice rapid dissemination of scenario information
- Study best practices for scenario design and implementation
- Intro to military tactics, techniques, and procedures (MTTP)
- Milestone: Create and distribute a sample mission scenario
Week 7: Technical Systems & Troubleshooting
- Overview of technical systems used in tactical training environments
- Learn basic troubleshooting techniques for multiple systems
- Hands-on experience with common technical issues
- Milestone: Successfully troubleshoot a simulated system problem
Week 8: Customer Service, Feedback & Final Project
- Develop skills in soliciting and incorporating customer feedback
- Practice handling customer inquiries and concerns
- Integrate all learned skills into a comprehensive mission coordination exercise
- Milestone: Develop a customer feedback strategy and complete a final presentation
Minimum Qualifications
Active-Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active-duty service. Applications accepted within final 12 months of active-duty service. Education and Experience dependent on Program of Instruction.
- 5 years of related experience with BA, 3 w/Master’s, 9 w/HS Diploma.
- SECRET security clearance

Preferred Requirements
- Prior Aviator/Air Traffic Controller/AIC familiar with F-18 Hornet Operations preferred.
- COMSEC experience preferred
