HII Mission Technologies is seeking an entry level Software Programmer to support the ongoing design, development, and deployment of advanced training systems for U.S. Navy applications. This role supports the Advanced Training Domain (ATD) software suite, which enhances operational readiness and modernizes shipboard and shore-based training capabilities.

 

This is a full-time, on-site position based in Virginia Beach, VA, offering the opportunity to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and contribute to mission-driven software development in a secure and innovative environment. #LI-MJ1

What you will do

•    Work with a small software development team and our customer for Sprint Planning, execution and reviews.
•    Formulate software solutions via the use of software requirements, consultations with users, and investigation into systems flow, data utilization, and workflow.
•    Explore problematic areas and investigating issues.  This includes Software Trouble Report analysis and resolutions.
•    Creating and showcasing solutions by generating documentation (e.g software development notebooks, sequence diagrams, dependencies, etc), code comments, and clear coding practices.
•    Executes software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems.
•    Conduct developer testing in both lab environments and aboard ship (when required) to verify software executing in line with requirements.
•    Limited travel in support of software installation and testing.

What you must have

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (no experience required), OR
  • Associate’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience, OR
  • High school diploma/Equivalent and 4 years of relevant experience

Technical Skills

  • Experience with C++ programming

  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development cycles

  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve software issues

  • Ability to obtain a Security+ certification within 3 months of hire.

Clearance Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret clearance.

 

Preferred Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science. Software Development, Information Technology, Data Science, Engieering or related. 
  • Experience with training system operations or development
  • Familiarity with tools such as Jira, GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, virtualization, and containerization technologies
  • Exposure to U.S. Navy training environments or similar mission-critical systems
  • Current or active DoD clearance.
  • Possession of a current IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA Security, CySA+)

Physical Requirements

Adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements Software Engineer family.
