Summary
HII’s System Integration group is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Integrated Training Systems Software Development team in Virginia Beach, Virginia. This full-time position supports the design, development, and deployment of both shore-based and shipboard software applications, including the Joint After Action Review (JAAR) and Data Collection and Display (DCD) systems.

By designing and deploying mission-critical solutions, the Software Engineer helps ensure seamless execution of distributed training environments across tactical platforms.
What you will do

Collaborate with a small Agile software team and customers to support sprint planning, execution, and reviews

Develop software solutions by interpreting requirements and consulting with end users

Investigate and resolve system issues, including analyzing and resolving Software Trouble Reports

Create and maintain software development documentation, including notebooks, sequence diagrams, and dependencies
-
Write clean, maintainable code with strong commenting and documentation practices
-
Perform hands-on development and troubleshooting, using innovative approaches to solve technical problems

Conduct developer testing in lab environments and shipboard settings (as required) to verify compliance with requirements

Participate in limited travel to support software installation and testing efforts
What you must have
Education and experience:

2+ years relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field

0 years experience with a Master’s degree in a related field

6+ years relevant experience with a High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience implementing Agile and Scrum development methodologies

U.S. citizenship required

Must possess a current or active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance or have the ability to obtain one

Security+ certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
Preferred Requirements

Degree in Computer Science or related field.

Operational or development knowledge of military training systems
- CompTIA Security+ CE certification (or equivalent) to meet DoD requirements for IAT Level II roles under DoD 8570 and SECNAV M-5239.2
