Summary
HII Mission Technologies is seeking a Software Programmer to support the design, development, and deployment of the Advanced Training Domain (ATD 2.X)—a shipboard combat system trainer that enhances U.S. Navy operational readiness. This full-time, on-site position is based in Virginia Beach, VA, and is part of a highly skilled software development team within our Integrated Training Systems group.
You will play a key role in delivering mission-driven software that improves warfighter simulation and training experiences. #LI-MJ1

What you will do
- Participate in Agile sprint planning, execution, and review cycles with internal teams and customers
- Design and develop C++ software solutions on Linux platforms based on system requirements
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve complex software issues including Software Trouble Reports (STRs)
- Create software documentation such as sequence diagrams, development notebooks, and code commentary
- Apply creative problem-solving and technical troubleshooting throughout the software lifecycle
- Conduct developer testing in lab environments and aboard ship, as required
- Provide occasional on-site support for installations and system verification (up to 10% travel)
What you must have
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience, OR
- Master’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience, OR
- Associate’s degree and 7 years of relevant experience, OR
- High school diploma/Equivalent and 9 years of relevant experience
Technical Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience with C++ development on Linux systems
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum software development methodologies
- Must obtain Security+ certification within 3 months of hire
Clearance Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must hole a current or active DoD secret clearance
Preferred Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science. Software Development, Information Technology, Data Science, Engineering or related.
- Experience with training system operations or development
- Familiarity with tools such as Jira, GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, virtualization, and containerization technologies
- Exposure to U.S. Navy training environments or similar mission-critical systems
- Possession of a current IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA Security, CySA+)
- Experience with JIRA and subversion a plus.
Physical Requirements
Adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements Software Engineer family.
