Summary
The Director of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) is responsible for leading and managing the division’s EH&S programs, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and client required EH&S standards. The Director identifies, builds support for and leads initiatives to enhance workplace safety, environmental stewardship, and employee well-being. This role serves as a senior contributor and primary point of contact for EH&S activities impacting the division. The director will influence and support division -wide goals and objectives impacting EH&S, and represent the organization in internal and external engagements as agreed to with division leadership.
This position has been approved for remote and/or hybrid work arrangements.
What you will do
- Plans, coordinates, and monitors the work of the Mission Technologies EH&S team.
- Directs and oversees the EH&S program across the division and collaborates with corporate level EH&S activities as directed.
- Ensures compliance with EH&S regulations applicable to Mission Technologies diverse lines of business collaborating with internal groups to support EH&S objectives.
- Supports resolution of EH&S technical and operational issues through direct staff and through leveraging internal resources and SMEs.
- Conducts briefings and technical meetings with leadership and customers on EH&S matters.
- Provides input on decisions that may impact EH&S outcomes as pertaining to EH&S training, procedures, internal/external reporting and staff development.
- Defines and implements operational and programmatic EH&S goals, supporting policies, administrative/operational procedures, and guidelines.
- Accountable for achieving results that significantly affect division and operational EH&S outcomes, meeting safety targets, and support program delivery.
- Decisions and recommendations carry implications for ongoing compliance with applicable external and client regulation and standards for EH&S.
- Reports to and collaborates with EHS&Q Director to establish short- and long-term objectives for EH&S.
- Collaborates with EH&S staff supporting client programs to identify actions required to meet requirements for EH&S.
- Serves as the primary EH&S contact for internal stakeholders, senior executives, and external customer representatives and builds commitment from HII staff to support EH&S initiatives.
- Regularly interacts with division, group, and program leadership to promote compliance with EH&S requirements and solicit feedback on services provided.
- Represents the EH&S function at senior-level meetings and influences organizational and customer perceptions.
What you must have
- 10 years relevant progressive experience with Bachelors in related field; 8 years relevant progressive experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 14 years relevant progressive experience.
- Advanced knowledge of EH&S techniques, practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Broad functional knowledge across multiple EH&S disciplines (environmental compliance, occupational health, safety management systems, etc.).
- Planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with a focus on results.
- Exceptional communication and leadership abilities to influence across all levels of the organization and build commitment to division EH&S goals and objectives.
- Proficiency in PC-based applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and email platforms.
- Emphasis is placed on related experience implementing EH&S best practices within diverse regulated industries.
Physical Requirements
- Position requires up to 25% travel to work/operational sites and remote locations.
- Majority of time is in an office-based environment with minimal hazards.
