Job Description
HII is looking for a cloud engineer with database and system administration experience to support the Office of Labor and Economic Analysis (OLEA) at the USAF Academy in Colorado Springs, Co. This position will need a wide variety of skills including network engineering and systems administration of current enclave environment, database administration skills (current Oracle database), and some data programming to support the extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of disparate information from external administrative and operational datasets into the OLEA databases. This position will also be required to support the maintenance and health of the current OLEA data warehouse and support the transition to a cloud environment.
Essential Job Responsibilities
The responsibilities include:
Systems Administration
- Install, configure, modify, update, upgrade, and troubleshoot OLEA internet working hardware and software including items such as production and test hubs, routers, switches, bridges and firewalls in a network environment.
- Participate in network upgrade and expansion planning, as needed and provide recommendations for hardware and software purchases (for new capabilities and replacement of existing capabilities) on a semi-annual basis.
- Interface with other administrators, including those of OLEA customers and the 10th Communications Squadron, to ensure network clients and servers are properly configured and performing optimally.
- Manage, administer, and support the local servers, applications, hardware operation, operating system software, and system/user support for OLEA systems, including creation and management of new and current user accounts.
- Install software in coordination with the AF regulations and OLEA policies.
- Perform and maintain a log of both daily and weekly system back-ups and verify data integrity.
- Maintain audit logs for servers and clients IAW the OLEA vulnerability management plan.
Development
- Architecting, implementing, configuring, and monitoring data programming mechanisms as appropriate to support labor economic analysis and personnel policy evaluation.
- Developing programs and scripting to support ETL procedures for both routine and ad-hoc data processing tasks to ingest data into the OLEA database.
- Evaluate all incoming data for completeness and provide diagnostic reports.
- Establishes and maintain software repository for OLEA data management code and other research code.
- Maintain and document all code used for the ETL processing, dataset scripting, and data warehouse maintenance using the OLEA software repository.
- Establish and enforce processes to ensure consistent, properly defined, well-maintained data repository.
- Support all documentation requirements such as Systems Engineering Plan (SEP) and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) plan.
- Develop, maintain, and document data security requirements for sensitive and personal identifiable information (PII).
Database
- Install, configure, modify, update, upgrade, and troubleshoot OLEA database hardware and software including items such as production and test hubs, routers, storage, switches, bridges and firewalls in a network environment.
- Maintain data dictionary information to include data keyword lists and dictionary forms. Ensures all data entries into the OLEA dictionary adhere to established standards and meets requirements for data integrity.
- Create data tabulations and other diagnostic reports as requested to identify required updates to database design and construction.
- Update database design and construction to meet specifications required for research.
- Conduct routine data review to clean and reduce duplicate data.
- Perform deidentification and create data subsets based on research requirements.
- Provides recommendations for improvements to database design and construction.
Minimum Qualifications
9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience.
Required experience, training, and certifications:
- Minimum 9 years’ experience in cloud environments including with designing, building, implementing and refining cloud architectures and providing prescriptive guidance across the network and security.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience with manipulating, normalizing, and mapping data to support ETL processing of external data into designated tables within a database
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working within database structures, scripting, and manipulation of database tables
- Must have an active Security+ or higher certification. Required for privileged account in cloud environment.
- SQL experience required (supports database requirement)
- Python experience required (supports ETL requirement)
- Unix/Linux experience required (supports sys adm requirement)
- R programming experience desired but not required
- Stata (Software for Statistics and Data Science) experience desired but not required
Security Clearance: Minimum Secret level clearance required
