HII is seeking an accomplished and forward thinking Electronics Engineer 5 to lead hardware development projects within our Electronic Systems team in Syracuse, NY. In this leadership role, you will drive technical direction, mentor engineering teams, and ensure the successful design, integration, and delivery of cutting edge electronics and communication solutions. We are looking for a strong technical leader who is a self starter, thrives in complex environments, and can operate with minimal oversight while influencing both engineering outcomes and team success.
As an Electronic Engineer 5, you will be a key technical authority, regularly coordinating cross disciplinary efforts across software, hardware, mechanical, and product engineering teams. You will shape system architectures, oversee analysis and design activities, and engage with customers and stakeholders to ensure solutions meet mission and end user needs.
Key Responsibilities — What You Will Lead
• Lead hardware engineering projects, driving requirements development and system architecture decisions
• Lead hardware focused design projects including Printed Circuit Boards (PCB), Radio Frequency (RF) design, power supplies, Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) firmware development, mechanical design, and systems engineering
• Lead hands on testing, troubleshooting, and validation using spectrum analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, and network analyzers
• Provide technical leadership for software defined radio (SDR) systems, waveform development, and integration
• laboratory based integration and test of complex electronics systems
• Primary interface with Program Managers supporting project execution
• Mentor, train, and guide junior and mid level engineers, fostering technical growth and collaboration
• Coordinate multi disciplinary engineering efforts to deliver high quality products on schedule
• Serve as a primary technical interface with customers, management, and other stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications
• 15 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 13 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 10 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 19 years relevant experience.
• Security Clearance: currently possess and be able to maintain an active Secret Clearance.
• Experience in system analysis, requirements derivation, and system design
• A team player with the demonstrated ability to successfully lead cross-functional teams.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with customers, management, and peers.
• Ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex systems with an aptitude to find creative, logical and effective solutions.
Preferred Requirements
• Familiarity with EW, radar and/or communication technologies.
• Experience with MATLAB for modeling and simulation with Simulink experience as a plus. Familiarity with Python or LabVIEW for rapid prototyping features and automating testing.
• Ability to provide task break-down, duration estimates, project milestones during project planning. Ability to provide inputs to technical leads and project managers on programmatic and technical deliverables during program execution.
• Experience in concept creation and rapid-prototyping a plus.
Physical Requirements
May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
