Summary

Mission Technologies a division of HII is seeking an experienced Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) with a strong Modeling & Simulation (M&S) background to support the JS J7 JLVC Modernization Program under the Joint Training Synthetic Environment (JTSE) contract. This part time role offers remote flexibility with periodic visits to the Joint Staff Complex in Suffolk, VA.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in JLVC Federation systems, advanced modeling and simulation architectures, and the ability to design innovative solutions that elevate next‑generation training capabilities across the Department of War. This role will lead the development of MBSE models, drive key modernization initiatives, and integrate emerging technologies—including AI and machine learning—into complex, mission‑critical training environments.

What You Will Do

•    Develop and maintain a comprehensive MBSE model of the JLVC Federation, including architecture definition, testing traceability, and support for rapid federation updates.
•    Lead the capture, development, and tracking of JLVC Modernization requirements, ensuring alignment with program metrics and strategic objectives.
•    Collaborate with engineering and development teams to design and prototype cutting edge M&S capabilities.
•    Serve as a primary technical consultant on JS J7 requirements for next generation wargaming tools, including integration of the Army’s NEXGEN Constructive (NGC) simulation.
•    Support requirements definition, development, and testing for the MAVEN Smart System JLVC data layer and the JTT application.
•    Provide strategic guidance on incorporating generative AI into training frameworks to accelerate development and improve collaboration.
•    Travel quarterly to Suffolk, VA (if remote) and to partner sites as needed. 

What You Must Have

•    10 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree; 8 years with a master’s; 6 years with a PhD; or 15 years of relevant experience with a high school diploma/equivalent.
•    Demonstrated success leading complex M&S initiatives within demanding DoD environments.
•    Extensive experience designing and integrating M&S architectures (constructive, live, hardware in the loop) for distributed training environments.
•    Deep knowledge of DIS/HLA simulation standards and integration practices.
•    Proven ability to translate operational requirements into actionable technical solutions and lead cross functional teams.
•    Must have an active DoD Secret clearance

Preferred Requirements

•    Master’s degree in Modeling, Virtual Environments & Simulation (MOVES) or related field.
•    Recent experience supporting the Joint Staff’s ELITE CONSTELLATION exercise construct and associated M&S architectures.
•    Demonstrated experience architecting unified frameworks from previously incompatible tools, models, or databases.
•    Hands on experience developing AI/ML adoption strategies or integrating generative AI capabilities.
•    Working knowledge of Python, JavaScript, or React for rapid prototyping and API integration.
•    Demonstrated experience planning, analyzing, or executing military CONOPS and TTPs.

Physical Requirements

Office, industrial, or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. Lifting and moving materials may be required.
