Job Description

 

Mission Technologies a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries is looking for a qualified individual to fill the role of a USCG Wiper. This person would work with a team that manages high-visibility projects as well as establishing and maintaining best-practices within the organization for project management. 

 

Essential Job Responsibilities

 

  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment in the engine room under the supervision of the engineering officer.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including cleaning, lubricating, and painting machinery, pumps, valves, and other engine room components.
  • Assist with the operation of propulsion engines, generators, pumps, compressors, and other machinery as directed.
  • Stand watch as assigned, monitoring engine parameters, equipment performance, and environmental conditions in the engine room.
  • Assist with fueling, ballasting, and other operational tasks as needed.
  • Participate in emergency response drills and exercises, including fire drills, abandon ship drills, and damage control exercises.
  • Follow all safety procedures, regulations, and protocols established by the US Coast Guard and the vessel’s commanding officer.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment readings, and operational procedures as required.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • High School education OR
  • Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Physical fitness and agility to perform duties in the engine room and on deck as required.
  • Willingness to work long hours and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to undergo drug testing and background checks as required by US Coast Guard regulations.

Preferred Requirements

 

Prefer technical/professional certifications.

 

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
