Job Description

Mission Technologies, a division of HII, is hiring a motivated Systems Engineer to support the Minotaur Mission Processor, a critical Command, Control, Communications, Computer, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) system deployed across various military and federal platforms.  

 

The Systems Engineer will be the technical orchestrator, responsible for defining, integrating, and verifying the architecture of the Minotaur suite, ensuring the seamless operation of sensor data fusion and mission management capabilities across multiple air and maritime assets.  

 

The position will be onsite at the NAVWAR HQs in San Diego, CA.  

 

An active US level Secret Clearance is required for consideration.  

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Requirements Management: Collaborate with stakeholders (users, software developers, hardware engineers) to elicit, define, document, and manage functional and performance requirements for Minotaur system capabilities and enhancements.

  • System Architecture and Design: Define and maintain the system-level architecture, including component breakdown, interface control documents (ICDs), and data flow specifications between the Minotaur processor, integrated sensors (e.g., radar, EO/IR), and external data links.

  • Integration and Test Planning: Develop detailed System Integration and Test (I&T) plans, procedures, and documentation. Lead system-level integration efforts in laboratory environments and support final integration events on target platforms (aircraft/vessels).

  • Verification and Validation (V&V): Execute test plans to verify system compliance with requirements and validate operational effectiveness. Analyze test data and generated logs to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex cross-domain issues.

  • Lifecycle Support: Support the full engineering lifecycle, including obsolescence management, risk analysis, trade studies for new technology insertion (AI/ML capabilities, new sensors), and documentation upkeep.

  • Software Management:  Plan and execute software upgrades, patches, and security fixes in a timely manner.
  • System Management:  Manage and monitor system performance, capacity, and availability to ensure maximum uptime. 
  • Increase Automation:  Automate routine tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention. 
  • Technical Support:   Provide technical support and troubleshoot complex problems related to systems and applications.  

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 0 years experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years relevant experience.
  • Experience with the full Systems Engineering lifecycle (Requirements, Design, Integration, Test).

  • Experience working with complex, interconnected systems, preferably in C5ISR, aerospace, or defense.

  • Understanding of hardware/software integration and familiarity with network architectures and data protocols.

  • An active US level Secret clearance at a minimum 

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with government-owned open architectures.
  • Demonstrated experitise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), including system installation, configuration, patch management, performance tuning, and troubleshooting in enterprise environments.  
  • Background in military mission systems, particularly with sensor processing, data fusion, or common operating picture (COP) systems.

  • Familiarity with Agile or other rapid development methodologies.

Physical Requirements

Office, industrial, or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. Lifting and moving materials may be required.
