Summary

Join HII as we keep the world's most powerful Navy afloat! The COMNAVAIRPAC Carrier Engineering Maintenance Assist Team (CEMAT) is looking for experienced Interior Communications (IC) Technician. The experienced technician will perform shipboard equipment assessments, repairs, technical documentation training, and equipment validation while managing multiple tasks. This is full-time position located in San Diego, CA. 

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct material condition assessments, troubleshooting and repairs on various equipment throughout the ship.  
  • Train Ships Force on proper assessment techniques.
  • Train Ships Force on using technical documentation such as drawings and technical manuals.
  • Validate equipment installed on CVNs to verify APL accuracy.
  • May perform duties as a general technician.

What You Must Have

  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 4 years of related experience.
  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Must have experience troubleshooting and repairing smoke alarms, fire alarms, intrusion alarms, flooding alarms, speakers and shipboard telephone systems.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals and other technical documentation for job completion. 
  • Strong computer skills with MS Office applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to go underway with the ship for short periods of time.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance. 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a passport and a CAC or DBIDS for base.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain ship access. 

Bonus Points For

  • Knowledge of the US Navy Supply system.
  • Experience with shipboard WAF and tagout processes.
  • Prior US Navy Active-Duty experience.
  • A current, active DoD security clearance. 

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
