We are seeking a Marine Electrician to serve on our SEMAT Combat Systems team located in San Diego, CA. This Marine Electrician will be responsible for performing maintenance and maintenance training to assist shipboard personnel in the operation, maintenance and repair of specific items of engineering systems/equipment onboard USN Surface Ships. *This role does not provide relocation assistance.

What You Will Do

  • Master understanding of production and processes. Responsible for interfacing with customers, managing subcontractors and ability to provide work direction to others. May provide direction and lead others.

  • May manage one or more multiple jobs. Completes comprehension of specialty trades functions and tools. Performs a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks.

  • Develops and uses technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.

  • Schedules, reports and briefs customers and senior management. May perform quality inspections on finished product. Performs duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.

  • Will be required to assist Ship's Force personnel with troubleshooting electrical and electronic components to determine all problems and assist with restoring Combat Systems equipment. 

What You Must Have

  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

  • Must have experience as a shipboard electrician/electronics trades specialty with 6 or more years of shipboard maintenance and repair experience.

  • Must be able to read and interpret equipment and systems ship drawings and ship technical documents and manuals.

  • Must be competent in the use of shipboard electrical equipment and tools in corrective repair efforts in order to accomplish ship repairs.

  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.

  • Must be physically able to climb and work on ships in an industrial environment. 

  • Start date contingent upon approved DBIDS for base access, which is required for this position and continued employment.

Preferred: Bonus Points For

  • Recent Marine Electrical/Electronic shipboard experience on USN ships.

  • Prefer former ET/IC/FC Navy ratings with shipboard troubleshooting and repair experience. 

  • Prefer Fiber Optic and copper/connector wiring technical/professional certifications.

  • NAVSEA Cableway certification 

  • A current, valid DoD security clearance. 

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
