Summary

At HII we build and maintain U.S. Navy readiness every day. We are seeking a technician for the SECAP Surface Enhance Capability to Assess Program team who schedules, and tracks Deck assessments on  U.S. Naval vessels in San Diego, CA. This is a full-time, hourly position located in San Diego, CA. This technician also conducts troubleshooting and repairs on HM&E systems, specifically: Deck machinery, Anchor Windlasses, Boat Davits & Winches, Monorails & hinged ramps, Mooring capstans, Boat & Multi-purpose cranes / Booms, and underway replenishment equipment in accordance with Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JIFMM) and International Standards Organization (ISO). SECAP works with Deck equipment and Machinery systems onboard all U.S.

What You Will Do

  • Considered subject matter expert in technical specialty. May work directly with customer or customer representatives, attend meetings, and deploy for special projects.
  • Ability to manage, oversee, schedule, and assign tasks to one or more multiple jobs. Installs, operates, maintains, repairs, and modifies equipment.
  • Performs a variety of maintenance and technical support on products such as equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at customer and/or field locations.
  • Analyzes and evaluates products and related performance. Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions to eliminate problem in minimum time.
  • Installs, upgrades, and removes products ensuring coordinative engineering field change. Maintains effective customer communications and relations. May provide onsite training of customer support personnel.

What You Must Have

  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience.

  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.

  • Must have mechanical experience troubleshooting and repairing U.S. Navy Ships.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DBIDS (Base Access) and a DoD Security Clearance.

  • Selected candidate will be required to have firm knowledge in:

    • anchor windlasses 

    • boat davits & winches

    • deck machinery 

    • monorails & hinged ramps

    • mooring capstains 

    • multi-purpose cranes / booms

    • underway replenishment equipment

Preferred: Bonus Points For

  • Ability to develop technical documents, customer briefings and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform quality inspections and internal with external, internal customers and senior management. 
  • Computer skills including the ability to log on and navigate through a series of menus/icons on a major system controlled by a central computer and the basic use of COTS software, electronic mail, and internet.
  • Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions: Shop, shipboard, warehouse, industrial environment.
  • May be exposed to fumes and irritants and humidity hazards while wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). 
  • Prefer technical/professional certifications.

Physical Requirements

Physical Requirements   Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
