Job Description

 

Mission Technologies a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries is looking for a qualified individual to fill the role of a Electronic Maintenance Technician. This person would work with a team that manages high-visibility projects as well as establishing and maintaining best-practices within the organization for project management. #LI-MA1

 

Essential Job Responsibilities

 

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and components on small craft, including boats, yachts, and other watercraft.
  • Perform electrical inspections, troubleshooting, and diagnostics to identify and resolve issues with wiring, circuits, switches, and electrical equipment.
  • Install and wire electrical systems for lighting, navigation, communication, entertainment, and safety equipment on small craft.
  • Test electrical systems and components to ensure proper functionality and compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Assist with the installation and integration of electronic systems, such as navigation systems, GPS devices, radar systems, and sonar equipment.
  • Collaborate with other tradespeople, including boat builders, mechanics, and plumbers, to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with other components of the vessel.
  • Maintain accurate records of electrical work performed, including diagrams, schematics, and equipment specifications.
  • Follow all safety procedures, regulations, and protocols established by maritime authorities and industry standards.
  • Stay current with advances in marine electrical technology and industry best practices through ongoing training and professional development.
     

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience
  • Certification or degree in electrical engineering, marine electrical technology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience as an electrician, preferably in the marine industry.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, wiring diagrams, and marine electrical codes and standards.
  • Familiarity with marine electrical equipment, including marine-grade wiring, connectors, switches, and fixtures.
  • Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to colleagues and clients.
  • Physical fitness and agility to work in confined spaces and adverse weather conditions as required.
  • Willingness to undergo drug testing and background checks as required by maritime authorities and industry regulations.

Physical Requirements

 

  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes.
  • The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs.
  • Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator.
  • Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
