Summary
Join HII as we keep the world's most powerful Navy afloat! This position is for an experienced Damage Control (DC) systems / equipment technician for the COMNAVAIRPAC Carrier Engineering Maintenance Assist Team (CEMAT). The experienced technician performs assessments, troubleshooting and repairs on closures and wire ropes. This is a full-time position, located in San Diego, CA.
What You Will Do
- Assisting Ships Force with accomplishing in port pre-AFFF Flight Deck Certifications (FDCs) PMS checks (Q-1/Q-2).
- May perform duties as a general mechanic working on food, service and laundry equipment.
- Assesses, repairs, and maintains closures and wire ropes to ensure proper function.
- Provide essential damage control support through comprehensive maintenance, repair, and training on wire ropes and watertight closures.
- Execute all aspects of wire rope management, from sailor training and fabrication to weight testing and quality control.
- Maintain and repair all shipboard damage control systems, including firefighting, and Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Defense (CBRD) equipment.
- Perform emergency and routine structural repairs to decks, hulls, and piping systems.
- Ensure all project documentation is accurate, with a focus on Automated Work Requests (AWRs).
What You Must Have
- High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 4 years of related experience.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
- Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
- Experience training sailors on how to safely inspect, remove and install DC Closure wire ropes.
- Experience conducting wire rope weight tests.
- Experience operating ESCO Swaging machine for fabricating wire ropes.
- Experience ensuring all paperwork supporting Automated Work Requests (AWRs) is accurately completed.
- Experience with the operation, repair and maintenance of all installed firefighting systems, damage control equipment, and chemical, biological and radiological defense equipment onboard US Navy vessel.
- Experience with emergent repairs to decks, structures and hulls by performing emergency pipe patching, plugging, and shoring and conducting maintenance and repair of watertight closures and assorted fittings.
Preferred: Bonus Points For
- Qualified (CEMAT Program) Wire Rope Fabrication/Swaging Machine Operator.
- Previous experience working with CEMAT.
- A current, active DoD secret security clearance or higher.
