Job Description

 

HII-MDIS is currently seeking a Linux Systems Administrator to support a Federal government agency, located in San Antonio, Texas. In collaboration with other Linux System Administrators, the successful candidate will install, configure, maintain, test, and periodically audit various national systems, to ensure their day-to-day operation.

 

The work schedule for this role is Monday-Friday, 7am-5:00pm CST. The successful candidate may be on-call periodically. (The successful candidate will work remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, and they will be expected to work on-site in San Antonio when the government agency determines it’s safe to return to the office.)

Essential Job Responsibilities

 

The System Administrator will provide Tier 2 support for various commercial-off-the-shelf and government-off-the-shelf national systems. As part of this role, they will be responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, testing, and periodically auditing such systems, to ensure their day-to-day operation.

Duties and Responsibilities (to include but not be limited to the following):

 

  • Install, configure, maintain, and periodically audit the Off-The-Shelf packages
  • Testing software releases
  • Research and remediation of security vulnerabilities
  • Develop and maintain:
    • Documentation of Linux system, server configurations and processes
    • Administrative support tools
    • Procedures for implementation/adaptation of products and services

Provided Tier 2 support and on-call coverage

Minimum Qualifications

 

All candidates will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and drug screening per HII requirements.

2 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 0 years experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years relevant experience.

Preferred Requirements

 

Education: Bachelor's degree Experience: A minimum of six (6) years of general experience, with at least three (3) years specifically in a related role.

Associate’s degree may be substituted for education: if the candidate has six (6) years of specialized experience related to the position

Master’s degree or PHD, with three (3) years of generalized experience.

 

  • Experience with the Linux environment (Red Hat)
  • Intermediate knowledge of Bash/AWK/SED
  • Good customer service skills
  • Previous experience providing help desk support and/or network support
  • Knowledge of legacy RHEL
  • Configuration management experience
  • Knowledge of Apache Tomcat and/or experience hosting Java-based application
  • Understanding of Windows server environment
