Job Description


HII-MDIS is currently seeking a Firewall Engineer to provide critical cybersecurity support for the Administrative Office of the US Courts. The position is located in San Antonio, TX.

Essential Job Responsibilities


Provide technical support and management of critical network and security infrastructure, including:

  • Performing support and maintenance of a centrally managed firewall infrastructure supporting sites and offices across the US, including services such as performing nightly back-ups, applying all changes, additions and deletions to firewall settings, performing operating system upgrades, applying system patches, monitoring system performance, and assisting in the cyclical replacement of hardware.
  • Performing support and maintenance of a vulnerability management platform, including services such as performing nightly back-ups, performing operating system upgrades, applying system patches, conducting routine and ad hoc vulnerability scans of systems, and generating reports providing detailed recommendations for the remediation of existing vulnerabilities.
  • Performing support and maintenance for a log management platform, including data search query development and dashboard report creation. Specific responsibilities will include applying vendor patches and assisting with the deployment, installation and configuration of system components and add-ons.
  • Responding timely to user requests and incidents related to the security infrastructure.
  • Conduct testing and audit log reviews to evaluate the effectiveness of current security measures
  • Responsible for information systems design, development, and analysis encompassing one or more of the following areas of technical expertise: programming, PC application analysis, software development, systems integration, and related disciplines.

Minimum Qualifications


5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field


Background should include:

  • Familiarity with applicable NIST information security documentation; i.e., Special Publication 800 series.
  • Configuring, supporting, troubleshooting firewalls (Palo Alto preferred)
  • Server and Network infrastructure monitoring (Splunk preferred)
  • Vulnerability scanning (Nessus, Tenable preferred)
  • Windows OS system administration
  • Problem solver with troubleshooting, decision making and analytical skills
  • Able to work and interact with others in a structured / team environment
  • Flexibility and adaptability to handle competing work demands
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate to nontechnical audiences on technical issues
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate on a technical level to technical audiences
  • Ability to work flexible hours and be on-call
  • Ability to do limited travel (0-4 times a year)

Preferred Requirements


  • Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information System Auditor (CISA), or a Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) in one of the five disciplines (Security Administration, Security Management, Forensics, IT Audit or Software Security).
