Job Description

 

HII-MDIS is currently seeking a Firewall Engineer to provide critical cybersecurity support for the Administrative Office of the US Courts, specifically in the area of firewall management. The position is located in San Antonio, TX.

 

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position. Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending upon assignments and other factors.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide technical support and management of critical network and security infrastructure, specifically a centrally managed next generation firewall infrastructure.  Management of the infrastructure will include:

  • Performing device backups nightly, including verification of backup integrity on a weekly basis and providing regular monthly reports on the status of all back-up jobs.
  • Performing all firmware and operating system updates on all firewall hardware, ensuring that all firewall systems are never more than one version behind the manufacturer’s latest recommended firmware/software release.
  • Installing and configuring new devices, either as part of routine cyclical replacement or as a result of a hardware failure, ensuring that the new devices have the same configuration as the replaced device and performs at or above the prior level of performance.
  • Maintaining a global firewall ruleset and configuration which applies to all field offices and remote locations, and performing periodic reviews of the firewall rulesets and make recommendations for additions, deletions, or modifications based upon usage, policy changes, or new cybersecurity industry recommendations.
  • Conducting troubleshooting and providing technical support services to other IT staff to assist in resolving connectivity issues, hardware failures, or other related issues.
  • Remaining up to date on emerging threats and zero day exploits and provide recommendations when such threats pose a risk to the office’s systems and data.
     

Essential Job Responsibilities

 

Responsible for information systems design, development, and analysis encompassing one or more of the following areas of technical expertise: programming, PC application analysis, software development, systems integration, and related disciplines.

Minimum Qualifications


9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience.

 

Background should include:

 

  • Five (5) years of experience in configuring, supporting, troubleshooting Palo Alto firewalls
  • Familiarity with applicable NIST information security documentation; i.e., Special Publication 800 series.
  • PAN-OS system administration
  • Problem solver with troubleshooting, decision making and analytical skills
  • Able to work and interact with others in a structured / team environment
  • Flexibility and adaptability to handle competing work demands
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate to nontechnical audiences on technical issues
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate on a technical level to technical audiences
  • Ability to work flexible hours and be on-call
  • Ability to do limited travel (0-4 times a year)

Preferred Requirements

 

  • Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information System Auditor (CISA), or a Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) in one of the five disciplines (Security Administration, Security Management, Forensics, IT Audit or Software Security).
