Job Description

This is an UNPAID internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. DoD SkillBridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership. HII Mission Technologies (HII-MT) Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full-time regular and permanent job with HII-MT.

 

For this internship, the SkillBridge intern will train as a Security Specialist within the HII Mission Technologies, reporting to a designated HII supervisor, with the goal of learning preparing the transitioning service member to serve as a Security Specialist supporting the Air Force Cognizant Security Authority (CSA). Participants will gain practical expertise in collateral and SCI program support, classification guidance, personnel security management, and integrated security operations across multiple domains. Training emphasizes compliance with DoD/AF directives, proactive counterintelligence awareness, and operational readiness to safeguard national security objectives. By program completion, participants will be prepared to deliver multi-disciplinary security support and assume senior-level responsibilities in industrial security analysis.  The intern will be assigned special projects as needed.

 

Desired End State (4-month target)

At the end of four months, participants will be able to:

  • Security Program Support
    • Provide technical advice and day-to-day support for collateral and SCI programs.
    • Develop OPSEC, emergency action, and transition plans.
  • Classification & Documentation
    • Apply classification guidance to program documents and correspondence.
    • Review Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) for proper markings and distribution.
  • Personnel Security
    • Monitor and manage clearances via DISS.
    • Ensure compliance with SF-312/NDAs and collateral access requirements.
  • Operational Security
    • Conduct entry/exit inspections and anti-terrorism measures.
    • Maintain facility access control, visitor escorting, and badge issuance.
  • Administrative & Compliance
    • Support inspections and MICT artifact creation.
    • Perform classified mail handling, courier processing, and reproduction support.
  • Professional End-State
    • Function as a senior-level industrial security analyst with TS/SCI clearance readiness.
    • Deliver integrated security operations across information, personnel, industrial, and communications domains.
  • HII Mission Technologies will benefit from the military background of the Skillbridge intern and considers the Skillbridge internship an overall positive experience.

 

Assumptions

  • SkillBridge Intern will possess at minimum a Top-Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • SkillBridge Intern will be available during core hours for critical meetings and training. No more that 40hrs per week.
  • Skillbridge Intern will not represent HII back to the DoD or Government on behalf of HII.

Minimum Qualifications

Active-Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active-duty service. Applicaitons accepted within final 12-months of active-duty US Military service. 

  • Transitioning US military service member with 8-14 years of Security Officer experience
  • Clearance: Top Secret clearance w/SCI eligibility
  • Demonstrable knowledge of DISS application
  • Demonstrable knowledge of SCIF operations
  • Demonstrable knowledge of access control
