Job Description

 

The Navy Integrated Training Environment (NITE) Quality Assurance / Safety Evaluator is responsible for auditing the compliance of the assigned site to the accepted standards within the NITE Quality Manual and NITE's Occupational Safety and Health Plan. 
At the direction of NITE Quality and Safety Management, the candidate will audit and produce reports in accordance with the customer approved Audit Schedule to include safety program evaluation. The candidate will also assist site management in incident investigation, documentation of nonconformities, corrective actions, preventive actions, customer feedback, external audits, and other quality actions.  Position requires flexibility to work occasional non-standard work hours and work weeks of more than 40 hours to meet business, customer, and contractual requirements.  Additionally, position requires flexibility as duties and responsibilities may be adjusted to meet business, customer, and contractual requirements.

Essential Job Responsibilities

 

Develops and implements testing and inspection procedures. Tests raw material, chemicals, and/or finished product to quality controls to ensure compliance with quality standards and applicable government regulations. Audits testing results to determine if product specifications are met. Advises operating units on quality control standards for raw materials, chemicals, packaging materials, and finished products. Recommends corrective action where necessary and develops plant quality control manuals.

  • Reports directly to the NITE West Coast Quality Assurance Manager.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Ability to write professional reports, business correspondence, and technical procedures. 
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a management team successfully. 
  • Assists in monitoring all aspects of contract performance against established and agreed-upon metrics. 

Supports management in establishing, developing, implementing and maintaining an effective Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001:2015. Assists management in planning, developing, establishing, implementing and maintaining an approved Quality Manual compliant with the Statement of Work and QMS elements. Assist site personnel the development/revision of Work Instructions (WIs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), for all QMS elements. Develops QA audits and inspections schedules for the assigned site. Participates in or conducts technical or special inspections as required. Establishes quality training requirements, schedules training classes, and arranges special training courses as required. Assists in maintaining files of site quality audits, including documentation of results, nonconformity reports, corrective and preventive actions. Analyzes trends, key metrics, implements process improvements, and systems to increase efficiency, effectiveness, accuracy, timeliness and completeness of program analysis. Provides support for the Government’s Quality Audits. Coordinate and implement Occupational Safety and Health Program at the site level. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory bodies including OSHA, EPA, US Navy, etc.; identify and mitigate physical and procedural hazards in the workplace, provide or coordinate safety training for employees as required or directed. Provide direction to the site manager in all areas of hazard assessment, control, regulatory compliance, and safety program initiatives. Acts as focal point for all project safety inspections, reporting, and safety analysis program. Follows established procedures to ensure achievement of quality, safety, and environmental standards. Complies with all applicable range regulations. Responsible for incident reporting and investigation, assistance with developing and implementing corrective actions, conducting work area inspections and assessments, waste minimization, pollution prevention and control, and record keeping. Develop strategies to continuously improve the safety program. Follow injury management guidelines for treating occupational injuries through coordination of local medical facilities and safety leadership. Perform root cause analysis and provide guidance to site management toward appropriate corrective actions. Promote safety culture and motivate all employees to participate in safety improvement activities.

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • 2 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field OR
  • 0 years experience with Masters in related field OR
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years relevant experience.
  • Three years’ experience in quality assurance/control methodology and safety programs, including establishing programs from inception through successful implementation. 
  • Three years’ experience in design, implementation and assessment of internal program performance controls (ISO 9001:2015).
  • Two years' experience in occupational safety practice and proof of 30-hour OSHA training, MSHA training or 40-hour HAZWOPER or completion of  Safety training within 6-months of hire date.

Physical Requirements

 

  • May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment.
  • Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
