Job Description

HII has a need for a Chief Engineer to provide mechanical and manufacturing engineering leadership in high energy laser systems. The Chief Engineer will provide team and supplier engineering oversight and assurance of excellence in design, systems, tools, processes, and and technical communication. System emphases include manufacturability, reliability, maintainability, and open interfaces.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation
  • Lead system and subsystem design activities, breaking-down larger work scopes into tasks that achieve program technical, schedule, and cost objectives.
  • Evaluate alternatives including cost and risk, supportability and analyses
  • Identify, articulate, and manage risks and risk-mitigation
  • Manage team, customer, and supplier/partner relationships
  • Lead and support the creation of technical documentation, to include technical review presentation content and technical reports

Minimum Qualifications

 20+ years relevant experience with Bachelors in engineering field; 18+ years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or 15+ years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field.

 

  • 5+ years in engineering leadership DoD roles.
  • Expertise in requirements interpretation, flow-down to component specifications, and assessment of designs and trade-offs against requirements
  • Experience creating and reviewing drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience in developing and reviewing others’ CAD-based and finite element analysis and designs
  • Experience in system packaging, integration, and enclosure design
  • Experience with design-for-robustness, -manufacturability, and -supportability.
  • Experience working on government contracts
  • Technical and problem-solving intuition
  • Curiosity and ability to work comfortably with complexity
  • Ability to anticipate and mitigate technical programmatic implications of complex system challenges
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with government stakeholders, company leadership, and technical subject matter experts in a wide range of disciplines
  • Must be able to obtain a SECRET security clearance

 

 

 

Preferred Requirements

  • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • +15 years in Engineering roles in the defense industry
  • +7 years in engineering leadership roles
  • Experience with design and test of High Energy Laser (HEL) systems
  • Clearance: Active SECRET security clearance
