Job Description

HII Nuclear is hiring for an exciting position located in Nevada! Relocation is required. This position will be responsible for effectively managing all operations activities associated with operating and maintaining a Device Assembly Facility (DAF). The DAF is a safe and secure facility used for National Weapons Labs experiments involving special nuclear materials as part of the National Nuclear Security Administration Stockpile Stewardship Program. Its missions assist in predicting the capability of weapon safety and performance. This position will manage staff and oversee all operational activities for the nuclear facility. Responsible for implementation of the Documented Safety Analysis and Technical Safety Requirements for the facility.  This position will ensure the facility can operate in a safe, secure, and environmentally sound manner.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain a skilled and trained base staff and matrixed support personnel who are well versed in the processes and procedures required to safely conduct work and experiments involving  special nuclear material at the facility
  • Accomplishes organization financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Supports Nuclear Weapons Laboratory personnel to ensure nuclear weapon stockpile stewardship experiment activities and schedules are maintained.
  • Leadership in the implementation of Conduct of Operations and Integrated Safety Management is an integral responsibility of this position, as demonstrated by periodic presence in the DAF, including leadership in the area of policy/procedural compliance.
  • Creates an environment where employees feel safe to raise issues, empowered to address issues, and supported to resolve issues.
  • Demonstrate environment, safety, health, and quality leadership and consistently enforce environment, safety, health, and quality policies and procedures. Implement applicable environment, safety, health, and quality requirements; emphasize the safety of each employee, and the protection of equipment and property in area of responsibility. Take immediate action to correct reported or observed unacceptable environment, safety, health and quality conditions and/or behaviors.
  • Assure that appropriate procedures, training, equipment, warnings, and tools are provided to employees to permit work to be performed safely

Minimum Qualifications

Candidate must have the following:

  • This position requires a BS in Engineering from an ABET accredited school of engineering and 8 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering, and design or equivalent. A MS in Engineering and professional registration with 6 years of relevant experience are preferred.
  • Familiarity with DOE requirements and guidance documents
  • Regulatory and operations experience in Navy Nuclear Programs
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Q Security Clearance
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Radiation Worker qualification
  • Skilled in working and communicating effectively with managers of other functional organizations (e.g. Engineering, Construction, Project Management, and the National Weapons Laboratories).

Physical Requirements

May be required to visit job site in an industrial or shipboard environment. Normally not required to lift more than 40 pounds higher than three feet above feet/floor level.
