Who we are
HII - Mission Technologies is currently seeking a Financial Analyst to work out of our Norfolk, VA office with hybrid/remote work as a possibility. Under general direction of the Finance Manager 2 and Director of Finance, the Financial Analyst is responsible for assisting with group level data reporting for timely delivery to the senior leadership team.
Objectives of this role:
- Focuses on budgeting, monthly forecasting and consolidated financial reporting.
- Conducts and documents financial analysis projects, data gathering, summarization of financial reports, sales activity, trends and opportunities.
- Interacts primarily with finance team and next level management but may have occasional interaction with other functional groups including but not limited to contracts, programs, accounts receivable, subcontract management and procurement to resolve problems and provide accurate, timely, user-friendly reports on program and project status.
- Recommends changes to processes and procedures to improve quality, efficiency, and internal and external customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in timely preparation of weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting as well as special projects as required.
- Assist and build on current models to forecast financials and operational KPIs; Implement FP&A best practices, procedures and processes to drive forecast & planning, business insight and analysis to support senior leadership team.
- Assist and support AOP, indirect rate forecasting and variance analysis.
- Assist with preparation and maintenance of financial models and tools; learn and understand the budget forecast model, propose enhancements for accuracy, relevance, changing business, changing markets, etc.
- Ensure reporting systems and source data are accurate and reconciled.
- Understand and assist with the analysis of business unit’s monthly/quarterly financial results (vs. forecast, prior year, AOP) and clearly articulate themes and performance drivers; this includes efforts to understand root causes of variances.
- Gather and manage data from multiple sources for analysis; identify trends, extract insights and deliver actionable presentations of findings.
- Support internal and external financial and management reporting.
- Coordinate monthly/quarterly reporting, validate accuracy and assist Finance team in creation of analysis and presentations for executive leadership.
- Co-collaborate cross functionally as a “business partner” to drive continuous improvement in reporting, forecasting, budgeting and analysis processes.
- Propose improvements to financial reporting templates and general FP&A related business practices.
- Conduct ad-hoc financial analysis/special projects to assist management in understanding business performance.
- Analyze actual results to understand variances and revise projections as appropriate.
- Assist with the identification of company risks and opportunities.
- Monitor costs and manpower on a weekly basis ensuring that actuals are within budget.
- Assist with ensuring accurate and complete variance analysis and reporting.
What you need to have:
- 3 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 1 year relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 years relevant experience.
- Ability to understand and resolve financial problems effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Skilled in research and analysis
- Working knowledge of Excel and Microsoft suite. Ability to learn and understand various business ERP systems (Deltek Costpoint, Onestream)
- Strong analytical abilities; detail oriented.
- Strong customer service focus.
