We have an exciting opportunity to join our Technician Group. The position will be responsible for the fabrication and assembly (to include bonding) of metallic and composite (CFRP) structural components supporting the company’s unmanned undersea vehicle project.

Unmanned Systems

    • Unmanned Systems, a business group within Huntington Ingalls Industries’ Technical Solutions division, creates advanced unmanned maritime solutions for defense, marine research and commercial applications. What you will do

•    Candidate must have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, structure and repair manuals as well as understand symbols, flags, and general notes.
•    Candidate must have experience working with precision measuring instruments, micrometers, calipers, tape measures and standard scales.
•    Candidate must also have experience with match drilling processes on metallic and composite parts.
•    Position may require candidate to obtain/maintain Confidential level clearance, but not required to start.
•    Lays out, fabricates and assembles a variety of standard and nonstandard major jigs, fixtures, tool masters, master tooling gauges and related tooling involving compound angles and complex contours where the establishment and coordination to exacting tolerances of numerous tooling holes and reference points between several planes are required.
•    Performs measurement surveys using photogrammetry, total stations, laser tracker or other electronic 3-D instruments.
•    Plans work to be performed and determines methods and sequence of operations working from tool design drawings or own designs.
•    Sets up and operates optical instruments to check overall and detailed alignment, fit or adjustment of assemblies. Develops and designs holding devices, jig and fixture details.
•    Prepares operational sequences and shop drawings covering parts fabrication and assembly to be. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical processes or other control procedures. 
•    Candidate must also have experience with match drilling processes on metallic and composite parts.
•    Position will regularly utilize tools to include but not limited to torque wrenches, drills, angles motors and drill press.
•    Performs measurement surveys using photogrammetry, total stations, laser tracker or other electronic 3-D instruments.
 

What we are looking for

 

  •  High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience. Prefer technical/professional certifications.
  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • May be required to physically access tight, low or high spaces, involving climbing, kneeling, stooping, standing, etc. Depending on area assigned, the job may involve exposure to extreme weather/temperature and other environmental conditions encountered in manufacturing, including noise, fumes, chemicals, etc. 
  • Position requires candidate to be respirator fit qualified.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Confidential level clearance #LI-MH1

Bonus Points for..

  

  • Candidate preferred to have demonstrated experience with metrology and interpretation of metrology reports.

  • Prior aviation structural assembly and maintenance experience with metallic, composite structures and aviation fastening systems is a plus.

Physical Requirements

Requires working in an industrial environment. Normally not required to lift more than 40 pounds higher than three feet above feet/floor level. May encounter extremes of temperature, pollution, humidity, noise, and other environmental factors while collecting data, observing performance of task teams.
