Job Description

Defense & Federal Solutions is seeking a Production Planning and Scheduler Manager to support the Validation Project at Newport News Shipbuilding. In this role, the candidate will work with the Project Manager, manage the Validation project and the team to include oversite of direct employees in a shipboard environment. This position will be located at the Newport News Shipyard in Newport News, VA. 



Essential Job Responsibilities

Plans, prepares, issues and controls production schedules and coordinates with material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials timed to meet production requirements. Advises management of the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials and services are provided as needed. Schedules equipment and personnel, confirms material supply and demands, prepares work orders or purchase requests for the production or purchase of components or parts based on a master production schedule, shop load and inventory requirements. Coordinates interdepartmental activity with quality assurance, manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, inventory control, traffic, etc.; schedules and expedites the movement of parts by means of move orders, stock transfers and requests for shipping orders.

Minimum Qualifications

6 years relevant progressive experience with Bachelors in related field; 4 years relevant progressive experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 years relevant progressive experience.

  • Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with both management and the Team in the day-to-day operations of the project.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Must possess an expertise in Navy Hull, Mechanical and Electric (HM&E) and Propulsion Plant systems preferably with leadership credentials in large deck ships. 
  • Must possess in-depth knowledge of engineering drawings/data reading practices (MIL-STD-1000), being capable to perform logistic technical evaluation of equipment and material presented in these drawings. 
  • Must be computer literate with the ability to be comfortable and proficient at a computer terminal manipulating data.  Candidate knowledge in MICROSOFT EXCEL and ACCESS is a definite plus.
  • Candidate must be capable of performing shipboard sight validations and able to perform logistic technical analysis of shipboard (marine) equipment.

Physical Requirements

May be required to visit job site in an industrial or shipboard environment. Normally not required to lift more than 40 pounds higher than three feet above feet/floor level.
