Job Description

At HII Mission Technologies, we take pride in being the exclusive shipyard that executes the Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH) of a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.  Our team is committed to ensuring the success of the Navy's aircraft carriers by incorporating improved capabilities needed for the remaining 25 years of service.  As a Master Tradesperson 2 (Mid-level mechanic), you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact supporting the U.S. Navy and America's national defense.  You will be working with the RCOH Elevator Support Unit (ESU) to support the refit and fleet modernization of the Aircraft elevator by working on mechanical systems.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Installs, operates, maintains, repairs and modifies equipment.  The chosen candidate performs a variety of maintenance and technical support on products such as equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at customer and/or field locations. Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions to eliminate problem in minimum time. Installs, upgrades and removes products ensuring coordinative engineering field change. Maintains effective customer communications and relations. May provide onsite training of customer support personnel. Applies understanding of production and processes to assignments. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. May assist in the development and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports. Performs duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or Trade School or equivalent and 2 years of related experience.
  • Must have knowledge and experience with troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs of mechanical systems and its associated equipment.
  • Must be able to read mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD confidential security clearance and maintain clearance level throughout employment.
  • Must be able to obtain base access credentials within 60 days of start date and maintain credentials throughout employment.
  • Must be able to provide hand tools per trade designation.

Preferred Requirements

  • Candidates who have graduated from and/or completed a vocational school, apprenticeship program or a skilled trades certificate program are preferred.
  • Candidate with a current or active DoD clearance.
  • OSHA 10 Maritime Certification is a plus.  
  • Previous knowledge of Navy Tag Out program, NSTM 300, and 3M manual.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
