HII is currently seeking a full time Engineer to support the USS Columbus at the Newport News Shipyard! This position will involve working for the Newport News Engineering Department E03 Engineers, Designers, and Waterfront trades to identify and resolve problems and encounter onboard ship during repairs of the Submarine USS Columbus. This position is located at the Newport News Shipyard.

What You Will Do

  • Performs engineering functions in one or more of the following specialties: electronics, electrical, mechanical, civil, naval, and/or chemical.
  • Work with the trades department on the submarine. 
  • Write Technical documents.
  • Correct issues and errors found. 

What You Must Have

  • 0 years experience with Bachelors in related field.
  • Candidate must be a recent graduate with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Engineering or graduating college senior who is in good academic standing and pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Bachelor's of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program is required prior to starting employment.
  • Candidate will also be required to provide a copy of their transcript confirming successful completion of Bachelor’s degree prior to start
  • Candidate must be able to work in confined spaces and climb ladders
  • Candidate must have the ability Obtain a confidential clearance
  • Candidate must be able to read and understand technical drawings
  • Candidate must be able to asses problems and come up with a solution 
  • Candidate must have AutoCAD experience

Physical Requirements

Office, industrial or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. Lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for one man lift.
