Job Description

Mission Technologies, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is inviting applications for the position of Engineer 1 to join our Integrated Product Support (IPS) team in Newport News, VA. This is an exciting opportunity to become a part of a dynamic team of Engineers, Designers, Planners, and PMA's who provide support to Facility operations at Newport News Shipbuilding. The ideal candidate should be a self-motivated individual who can work collaboratively in a team environment to meet the needs of Facilities Engineering operations at NNS.

Essential Job Responsibilities

This project engineering position will support Facilities Engineering to develop and execute projects with a focus on robotics, automation, and advanced manufacturing technology equipment.

 

Additional areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:

  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams to oversee development and implementation of manufacturing facility projects across all project management phases
  • Perform engineering oversight for design engineering disciplines: electrical, mechanical, electromechanical controls, and/or structural
  • Provide field engineering, field technical assessments, and contractor management during construction
  • Provide manufacturing process engineering and technology development 
  • Control project costs and schedules

Minimum Qualifications

  • 0 years experience with Bachelors in Engineering from an ABET accredited program in one of the following disciplines: Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, or Mechatronics
  • Strong project management, scheduling, and organizational skills
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Strong computer skills – Windows and MS Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently and be a part of cross-functional teams in accomplishment of complex tasks
  • Ability to address technical, quality and business aspects of a project
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks on schedule and within budget
  • Ability to learn independently through your own research and experimentation
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with automating or improving a process using robotic or industrial automation systems
  • Developing software, preferred language is C# / .NET, with exposure to software engineering topics like object oriented programming, SOLID principles, and test driven development
  • Analyzing design engineering requirements documents and electrical, mechanical, and structural drawings
  • Familiarity with materials and processes in manufacturing
  • Working in an industrial environment and demonstrating a positive attitude for safety

Physical Requirements

Office, industrial or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. Lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for one man lift.
