Summary

At HII we build and maintain U.S. Navy readiness every day. We are seeking a technician for the SECAP Surface Enhance Capability to Assess Program team who schedules, and tracks Ballast, Hydraulic, HP/LP air, CMU, Metal / Glass shredders, Pulper systems assessments on U.S. Naval Vessels. This technician also conducts troubleshooting and repairs on HM&E systems, specifically: Ballast, Hydraulic, HP/LP air, CMU, Metal / Glass shredders, Pulper, Main Drainage, and Fire-main systems in accordance with Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM) and International Standards Organization (ISO). SECAP works with Ballast, Hydraulic, HP/LP air, CMU, Metal / Glass shredders, Pulper systems onboard all U.S. Naval vessels in San Diego, CA. This is a full-time, hourly position located in San Diego, CA.

What You Will Do

• Assess, Train, and assist in the repair of Ballast, Hydraulic, HP/LP air, CMU, Metal / Glass shredders, Pulper systems and station valves with Ships Force personnel. Coordinate an assessment of all West Coast Naval Vessels for Ballast, Hydraulic, HP/LP air, CMU, Metal / Glass shredders, Pulper systems and station valves.
• Identifying issues in three categories (Major, Minor, Repair Before Operating (RBO). Trained Sailors in all aspects of Ballast, Hydraulic, HP/LP air, CMU, Metal / Glass shredders, Pulper systems and station valves configuration (by class of ship), valve recognition, and Ballast, Hydraulic, HP/LP air, CMU, Metal / Glass shredders, Pulper systems and station valves repair.
• Utilizes an “On Hands” approach/ technique specific to the Sailors individual strengths to benefit the Sailor as well as the command.
• Assisted Ships force in the identification of proper materials and manuals necessary to make repairs to maintain Ballast, Hydraulic, HP/LP air, CMU, Metal / Glass shredders, Pulper systems and station valves. Conducted Ballast, Hydraulic, HP/LP air, CMU, Metal / Glass shredders, Pulper systems and station valves validation to ensure accuracy of proper documentation in reporting deficiencies through ships CSMP.
• Provided written documentation to both surface ships and SURFPAC to the Commands current status of Ballast, Hydraulic, HP/LP air, CMU, Metal / Glass shredders, Pulper systems and station valves.

What You Must Have

• Must have High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience, to include specific systems expertise. Prefer technical/professional certifications.
• Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
• Must have mechanical experience troubleshooting and repairing U.S. Navy Ships.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain DBIDS (Base Access) and a DoD Security Clearance.
• Selected candidate will be required to have firm knowledge in:
  • Ballast / De-ballasting controls and system
  • Ship Service Hydraulic system
  • HP / LP Air system
  • CMU's, Metal/Glass shredders, Pulper systems
  • Various valve repair 
  • Pump repair

Preferred: Bonus Points For

• A current, valid DoD Security clearance. 

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
