Job Description
The Operational Energy Cyber Academic Instructor delivers advanced technical instruction supporting Joint, allied, and Department of the Navy education programs focused on operational energy, cyber resiliency, and C5ISR mission readiness. This part‑time role supports multi‑week academic offerings at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) and partner locations, combining in‑residence teaching with remote online instruction.

You will help shape the next generation of leaders who safeguard U.S. and allied energy systems, counter hybrid threats, and strengthen national resilience across physical, cyber, informational, and unconventional domains.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Deliver live, in‑residence instruction during designated weeks at required CONUS and OCONUS locations.
- Conduct online instruction, proctoring, and student engagement during remote course weeks.
- Update course materials, lesson plans, and instructional content to reflect evolving technologies, threats, and mission requirements.
- Design, develop, and deliver advanced technical training across Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO), Network Operations (NetOps), and Intelligence Operations (IntelOps).
- Translate complex cyber and operational energy concepts into practical, scenario‑based learning experiences.
- Develop and maintain customized courseware, simulations, and data‑driven use cases using real‑world assessments, vulnerabilities, and threat intelligence.
- Collaborate with engineering, cybersecurity, and data science teams to integrate emerging tools, analytics, and system architectures into instruction.
- Evaluate program effectiveness using student feedback, performance data, and mission alignment metrics.
- Support curriculum refinement to ensure accuracy, compliance with standards, and relevance to current operational environments.
- Travel to required locations for in‑residence instruction and program delivery.

Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience
- 10 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- 8 year of relevant experience with a Master’s degree in a related field
- 14 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience delivering technical instruction, training, or education in cybersecurity, IT, or related mission areas.
Background & Technical Knowledge
- Knowledge of cyber operations, network operations, or intelligence operations environments.
- Experience developing or delivering technical training, courseware, or scenario‑based instruction.
- Familiarity with cyber threat intelligence, system vulnerabilities, network assessments, or operational energy concepts.
- Ability to translate complex technical material into accessible, mission‑focused learning content.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and classroom management skills across in‑person and online environments.
- Ability to support multi‑week instructional cycles that combine in‑residence and remote delivery.
Credentials
- U.S. citizenship.
- Ability to obtain a SECRET clearance upon determination of need.
- Valid U.S. passport or ability to obtain one prior to first OCONUS travel window
- Willingness and ability to travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations including Monterey, CA; San Diego, CA; Washington, DC; Oberammergau, Germany; Vilnius, Lithuania; Bydgoszcz, Poland; Tirana, Albania; Bratislava, Slovakia; and Belgrade, Serbia.
Preferred Requirements
- Experience teaching or supporting DoD, Navy, Joint, or allied cyber training programs.
- Background in operational energy, cyber resiliency, or C5ISR‑related mission areas.
- Experience developing simulations, labs, or hands‑on cyber training environments.
- Certifications such as CISSP, CEH, CySA+, Security+, or other cyber‑focused credentials.
- Graduate‑level education in cybersecurity, information systems, energy security, or a related technical field.
Physical Requirements
Job performance will normally require only minor lifting and carrying of boxes of records or equipment.
