Job Description
- Performs general maintenance and repair of equipment, machinery, plumbing, and electrical systems, vehicles, and buildings, requiring practical skills and knowledge.
- Performs general, non-specialized tasks in the maintenance of target ranges and supporting facilities. Under general supervision, performs maintenance of targets and target areas using general-purpose tractors, lawn mowers, power tools, and hand tools. Performs removal of ordnance debris and scrap material to government-designated storage areas, by lifting and placing material on transport vehicles, sorting material by category, and storage within government-designated areas. Responsible for painting, welding, carpentry, masonry repair, and/or alteration of structural buildings within designated target areas and minor electrical repair as directed.
- Performs corrosion control and minor repairs. Responsible for grass cutting and weed control at all sites. Performs PM of the main building air-conditioning system and replaces light fixtures. Performs minor maintenance/repair such as oil changes, cleaning, washing, and waxing on contractor- and government-owned vehicles.
- Assists HVAC/Ground Power Mechanic as needed at MCOLF and JAXDET in performing their maintenance functions. Dismantles machines or equipment and replaces defective parts and motors under supervision. Cleans and lubricates machine parts such as shafts, pulleys, gears, and bearings. Replaces machine belts. Removes dust, dirt, grease, and waste material from machines. Paints machines or equipment to prevent corrosion.
- Bends, cuts, and threads pipe; cuts openings in walls, ceilings, and floors for pipes. Patches and replaces plaster. Clears clogged drains and replaces plumbing fixtures.
- Assists in the movement of range assets in support of mission operations.
- Provides courier pickup and delivery services as needed.
- Arranges for POL for vehicles at MCOLF and JAXDET.
- Provides janitorial/custodial services as required.
- When performing work, responsible for adhering to environmental, safety, and health standards related to the activity, including the wearing of all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Must cease work and notify lead, supervisor, or manager of all unsafe conditions.
- Must successfully complete all assigned training and ensure its entry into their training jacket, to include but not limited to monthly CTTR training assigned in SharePoint, government assigned training in TWMS, and all other non-recurring training as assigned.
- Will accurately document work performed in the IEMS
- May be required to travel up to 50 % in performance of work, government Joint Travel Regulations are applicable to all travel.
- Work is scheduled by the manager or supervisor based on mission schedule and fleet requirements. Mission support requires shifting of schedules to accommodate fleet readiness and to ensure crew rest.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Essential Job Responsibilities
The General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. Work involves a variety of the following duties: replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors, using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings, repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets painting structures and equipment; repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks, replacing damaged paneling and floor tiles, hanging doors and installing door locks, replacing broken window panes, and performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery. Excluded are: a. Craft workers included in a formal apprenticeship or progression program based on training and experience; b. Skilled craft workers required to demonstrate proficiency in one or more trades; c. Workers performing simple maintenance duties not requiring practical skill and knowledge of a trade (e.g., changing light bulbs and replacing faucet washers)
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 years related experience.
- Minimum Secret clearance required
Preferred Requirements
- Previous experience on NITE contract
Physical Requirements
May require working in an industrial or shipboard environment. Normally not required to lift more than 40 pounds higher than three feet above feet/floor level. May encounter extremes of temperature, pollution, humidity, noise, and other environmental factors while collecting data, observing performance of task teams.
