Job Description

Mission Technologies, a division of HII, is hiring a Mechanical Engineer who will perform computer-aided mechanical engineering design including component design and packaging engineering, and interface design and specification, while effectively negotiating with design stakeholders and managing risks at our Knoxville, TN location.  

 

The ideal applicant will have strong communication skills to negotiate design characteristics among engineers, suppliers, and program management.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Analyze and solve complex mechanical engineering problems. 
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement innovative mechanical solutions.
  • Contribute to the overall product architecture design.
  • Identify, articulate, and manage risks associated with mechanical, thermal, electrical, and optical systems.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including customers and technical experts  
  • Track and drive tasks through to completion, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines
  • Develop and manage internal and external relationships 

Minimum Qualifications

  • 9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with strong work ethic.
  • Ability to think critically and problem solve in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to translate requirements into tasks and completed designs.
  • Ability to anticipate and develop mitigations for technical program risks.
  • Ability to perform fundamental analysis working from first principals.
  • Experience with SolidWorks CAD tools.
  • Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Experience with fabrication and methods of manufacture.
  • Strong systems thinking and ability to understand complex product architectures.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and methodologies.
  • Clearance: Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a US Secret clearance.  

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience engineering hardware for Department of Defense. 
  • Experience with SolidWorks Product Data Management. 
  • Experience with FEA and CFD analysis.  
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering. 

Physical Requirements

Office, industrial or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. Lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for one man lift.
