Summary

When a U.S. Navy ship needs repairs, they call us!   HII is currently seeking qualified Electrical Designers with recent experience in the development of AutoCAD drawings for the maritime industry.  Join our team as we keep the most powerful Navy the world has known afloat and ready to serve.   *This position is contingent upon task award*

 

What you will do

  • Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.
  • Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA.
  • Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal.
  • Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications.
  • Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.

What we are looking for

  • Must have an active confidential security clearance to start
  • Associates Degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 3 years of related experience; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years related experience.
  • Recent experience in the development of AutoCAD drawings for the maritime industry.
  • Experience in ship checking Military vessels (LHD/LHA/LCS/LPD/CVN/etc.) in the Hull, Mechanical, and/or Electrical disciplines.
  • A new Federal Executive Order requires that employees of Federal contractors be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by December 8, 2021. Accordingly, as a condition of employment with Technical Solutions, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, employees will be required to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 or have an approved exemption prior to starting employment. 

Preferred, Bonus Points For

  • Experience in ship checking Military vessels (LHA/LHD/LCS/LPD/CVN/etc.) in the Hull, Mechanical, and/or Electrical disciplines
  • 3D modeling experience (Inventor, Siemens NX, SolidWorks, CATIA, Ship Constructor, etc.)
  • Design experience in the following specialty for marine applications: Electrical
  • Experience with developing Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) drawings with the use of Intelligent Ships Installation Drawing (ISID)

Physical Requirements

Office, industrial or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances during site surveys. Lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for one man lift. Must be able to perform site surveys and carry a lap top computer.
