We are seeking a talented and experienced Designer 3 to join our team at HII. The Designer 3 will be responsible for creating and developing designs for a variety of projects. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, engineers, and other designers to ensure that designs meet project requirements and deadlines.
What You Will Do
- Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.
- Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA.
- Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal.
- Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications.
- Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other designers to ensure that designs meet project requirements.
- Prepare and present design concepts and ideas to project teams and clients.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in design.
What You Must Have
- AA or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 3 years of related experience. HS + 3 years related experience may be substituted for AA degree.
- Candidate must be Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD software.
- Active Secret Clearance required for this position.
- Candidate must be familiar with shipboard systems and equipment.
- Candidate must have strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Candidate must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Candidate must have strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Candidate must have knowledge of industry trends and best practices in design.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
Bonus Points For Having!

- Prior experience working with NNS, NNSY, Ingalls, and PSNS Shipyards
