We are seeking a talented and experienced Designer 3 to join our team at HII. The Designer 3 will be responsible for creating and developing designs for a variety of projects. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, engineers, and other designers to ensure that designs meet project requirements and deadlines.

What You Will Do

  • Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.
  • Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA.
  • Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal.
  • Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications.
  • Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other designers to ensure that designs meet project requirements.
  • Prepare and present design concepts and ideas to project teams and clients.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in design.

What You Must Have

  • AA or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 3 years of related experience. HS + 3 years related experience may be substituted for AA degree.
  • Candidate must be Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD software.
  • Active Secret Clearance required for this position.
  • Candidate must be familiar with shipboard systems and equipment.
  • Candidate must have strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Candidate must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Candidate must have strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Candidate must have knowledge of industry trends and best practices in design.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Bonus Points For Having!

  • Familiarity with IDEA CAD Standards
  • Prior experience working with NNS, NNSY, Ingalls, and PSNS Shipyards

Physical Requirements

Office, industrial or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances during site surveys. Lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for one man lift. Must be able to perform site surveys and carry a lap top computer.
