Job Description
We are seeking a highly organized and experienced Technical SME that will serve as Team Lead to manage and coordinate service call operations aboard U.S. Navy berthing barges. This role demands timely response and resolution of maintenance, repairs, and miscellaneous work requests generated by barge occupants or the government. The Team Lead will oversee a multi-trade workforce, prioritize tasking, and maintain compliance with contract requirements and safety standards. *This position is contingent up on contract award*
Essential Job Responsibilities
Leadership & Oversight:
- Supervise and direct multi-trade technicians performing maintenance and repairs.
- Provide technical guidance and ensure adherence to safety protocols, NAVSEA standards, and contract specifications.
- Conduct on-site inspections to validate quality and timeliness of work.
- Maintain accurate records for audits and performance reviews.
Service Call Management:
- Receive, classify, and document service call requests (routine, urgent, emergency) in accordance with contract requirements.
- Maintain accurate service call receipt records, including problem description, date/time, location, and classification.
- Ensure proper logging and transmission of service call data to the work control system.
Response Coordination:
- Dispatch qualified personnel to job sites based on call classification and urgency.
- Monitor progress and verify completion of repairs before closing service calls.
Communication & Reporting:
- Serve as primary point of contact for COR/ACOR regarding service call status and reclassification decisions.
- Complete reporting requirements for daily/weekly status reports on service calls.
- Document follow-up work requirements and coordinate additional labor/material as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 8 years of related experience, to include specific systems expertise. Prefer technical/professional certifications. Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
- Must have 6 years experience holding a technical position in maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting concentrated in at least one of the following areas: mechanical, electrical, welding, HVAC, or plumbing on Navy Berthing Barges, DoD platforms, or other relevant maritime platforms
- Proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams for 2+ years, while managing shipboard or industrial production, and coordinate urgent/emergency responses.
- Must have technical knowledge and familiarity of general maintenance trades (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry) for auxiliary and shipboard systems
- Must have the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and OEM specifications.
- Possess strong verbal and written skills for interaction with Government representatives and internal teams.
- Must be familiar with Quality Management Systems and Technical Work Documents (TWDs) in support of maintenance and repair work.
- Knowledge of tag out procedures and hot work requirements per OSHA and NAVSEA standards.
- Experieince working in shipyard/barge environments in compliance with OSHA, NAVSEA, and program safety requirements.
- Active Secret Security Clearance
Preferred Requirements
• Any Quality Control or Inspector experience or NDT experience
• Prior experience supporting U.S. Navy berthing barges or similar afloat platforms.
• Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items, NFPA codes, and SSPC surface preparation standards.
• Familiarity with service call tracking systems and work control procedures.
• Any prior technical or trades school training
• OSHA-10/30 preferred ability to obtain base access credentials
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 50 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards,under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Must consistently wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, safety boots, fall protection) and follow program safety training/briefings. There will be 10 % Periodic travel to Hampton Roads, VA (Norfolk/Newport News/Portsmouth) and Kittery, ME for site inspections and coordination
Work Hours:
• Regular: Monday–Friday, 0700–1530 (and additional on call hours).
• Overtime, weekends, and federal holidays may be required for urgent/emergency work.
