Job Description

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) Mission Technologies Warfare Systems partners with the DoD and defense innovation ecosystem to rapidly acquire and field critical and emerging technologies, particularly integrated communications, networking, and Systems-of-Systems (SoS) technologies, to enhance national security and warfighter capabilities. Through a multiagency contracting approach, the Collaborative Operations for Battlespace Resilient Architecture (COBRA) initiative focuses on advancing these technologies to achieve multi-domain battlespace integration and resilient command and control. This includes a broad range of services such as systems engineering, cybersecurity, operational integration, and data analytics, all aimed at modernizing communications and ensuring seamless information exchange for the DoD and its allies.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Supports innovative research and technology development using deep understanding of AI and ML technologies in accordance with relevant DoD policies, DoDI 5000.88, and DoD AI Ethical Principles. Provides strategic assessments of new and current technologies to support senior decision-makers while conducting background research in evaluating the feasibility and the defense applications of new technological concepts.
  • Creates data mining architectures/models/protocols, statistical reporting, and data analysis methodologies to identify trends in large data sets. Analysis may have many applications such as addressing a business issue or providing an intelligence advantage for the organization. Researches, designs, and develops advanced AI; develops advanced solutions at the intersection of AI and data science.
  • Applies AI/ML techniques to improve existing and newly developed algorithms. Provides analysis, requirements and algorithm design, implementation, integration, verification, and maintenance of AI software systems. Collaborates across multi-functional teams to identify opportunities for improving the IT services enterprise. Exercises a strong knowledge of software systems, AI, Deep Learning, design methods, and system-of-systems architectures.
  • Understands supporting technologies, including cloud computing, containerization (for deployment), parallelization (for training), databases (for training data), and Git (for code management).
  • Collaborates across multi-functional teams to identify opportunities for improving the advanced engineering and modeling and simulation experimentation environment and solutions. Participates in algorithmic design and ML frameworks, including classification and targeting techniques.
  • Understands and follows development operations procedures such as source control, change management, and release planning. Integrates AI engine/techniques with Modeling and Simulation applications.
  • Ability to self-manage and pace responsibilities to ensure completion of activities in a timely manner. 

Minimum Qualifications

9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in realted field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience.

 

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- Strong understanding of system development lifecycle (SDLC)
- Ability to analyze complex technical problems and propose effective solutions

Preferred Requirements

- Experience with DoD systems and acquisition lifecycle
- Proficiency with systems modeling or simulation tools
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
