What you will do

  • Award purchase orders up to authorized signature authority, ensuring compliance with government and/ or company policies and procedures. 
  • Evaluates purchase requisitions for materials and services of a technical or specialized nature and confers with departments regarding requirements, specifications, quantity, quality and delivery dates. Recommends substitutes or changes where cost savings or supportive deliveries will result. 
  • Keeps abreast of current and developing market conditions. Investigates and interviews new vendors as possible sources. 
  • Solicits and evaluates quotations and negotiates directly with supplier representatives for best price, delivery and terms. 
  • Assist with the adjustments with vendors involving the replacement of non-conforming materials to purchase specifications. 
  • Assures that all purchasing documents are maintained in accordance with established procedures and good business practice. 
  • Follow-up on and expedites orders, as required. 
  • Develops and maintains all necessary weekly and monthly reports associated with assigned tasks. 
  • Supports department goals for minimum vendor delinquencies, timely purchase requisition placement and timely processing of pricing efforts in support of proposals. 
  • Assists Business Development, Cost Estimating, Contracts and other departments, as requested, to develop proposals for new business. 
  • Assists in maintaining procurement computer database and all documentation files. 

In addition to the activities detailed above, the successful candidate will be the primary interface between their assigned programs and the vendors for any procurement-related issues.  The individual will regularly collaborate with members of program management, project control, contracts and business development and will need to be able to foster relationships with individuals from the other functional areas..

What we are looking for

  • 3 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 1 year relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 years relevant experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with others and work independently.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the practical applications of personal computers and basic application software (e.g., Excel, Word, etc.).
