The Enterprise Architecture (EA) Manager is responsible for establishing, leading, and maturing a newly formed EA function within the Information Technology (IT) Department, while also working as an individual contributor. This role will build and manage a team of business and technical architects, define and implement enterprise architecture frameworks and standards, and ensure tight alignment between business strategy, technology strategy, and delivery execution.
This position plays a critical leadership role in shaping the organization’s future-state architecture, enabling scalability, security, and interoperability across applications, data, infrastructure, and business processes. The EA Manager will collaborate closely with IT leadership, cybersecurity, PMO, application development, infrastructure, data, and business stakeholders to embed architecture governance into planning and delivery processes.

Responsibilities: I want to and can do that!

Architecture Function Establishment & Leadership
•    Establish and lead the new EA team, including business architects and technical/domain architects (application, data, integration, infrastructure, and security).
•    Define the mission, operating model, roles, responsibilities, and career paths for the architecture function.
•    Recruit, onboard, mentor, and develop architecture talent; foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and pragmatic decision-making.
•    Set priorities, manage workload, and ensure architecture services are aligned with enterprise and IT strategic objectives.
Architecture Strategy & Framework
•    Develop and implement an EA framework (e.g., TOGAF-aligned or equivalent) tailored to organizational needs.
•    Define and maintain current-state, target-state, and transition architectures across business, application, data, and technology domains.
•    Establish architecture principles, standards, patterns, and reference architectures to guide solution design and investment decisions.
•    Drive roadmap development that aligns business capabilities with technology modernization efforts.
Architecture Governance & Integration
•    Design and implement architecture governance processes, including solution architecture reviews, standards compliance, and exception management.
•    Integrate architecture practices into IT intake, portfolio management, SDLC/Agile delivery, and PMO processes.
•    Partner with cybersecurity and risk teams to ensure security-by-design and compliance with regulatory, privacy, and risk management requirements.
•    Ensure architecture decisions balance innovation, cost, risk, and technical debt management.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Business Alignment
•    Serve as a trusted advisor to IT and business leaders on technology strategy, capability enablement, and transformation initiatives.
•    Partner with application development, infrastructure, data, integration, and operations teams to ensure architectural consistency and feasibility.
•    Work with business units to understand strategic goals, translate them into architectural requirements, and guide solution options.
•    Facilitate alignment between enterprise architecture and vendor, cloud, and third-party technology strategies.
Standards, Tools & Documentation
•    Define and maintain architecture artifacts, repositories, and modeling standards.
•    Select and implement architecture tools and repositories to support documentation, analysis, and decision-making.
•    Ensure architecture deliverables are clear, actionable, and consumable by delivery teams and stakeholders.
Financial & Strategic Impact
•    Support IT investment planning by providing architectural analysis, options, and cost/benefit tradeoffs.
•    Identify opportunities for rationalization, reuse, standardization, and optimization across the IT landscape.
•    Measure and report on architecture maturity, adoption, and business value.

Requirements: I have already done that or have it!

•    8 years relevant progressive experience with Bachelors in related field; 6 years relevant progressive experience with Masters in related field.
o    5+ years of progressive IT experience, including architecture, solution design, or technology strategy roles.
o    3+ years of people management experience, preferably leading senior technical or architecture professionals.

•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including stakeholders, team members, and senior management.
•    Analytical and problem-solving skills: Ability to analyze data, identify trends, assess risks, and make informed decisions.

Preferred Requirements

•    Formal architecture training or certifications (e.g., TOGAF, SAFe Architect, Zachman, or equivalent).
•    Experience integrating architecture into Agile, hybrid, or traditional SDLC environments.
•    Familiarity with cloud platforms, integration patterns, data architecture, and modern application ecosystems.
