Summary
Mission Technologies is seeking a highly skilled Simulator Common Architecture Requirements and Standards (SCARS) Engineer to support the 132nd CTS Distributed Training Operations Center (DTOC) in Des Moines, IA. This role provides technical leadership and oversight of software and equipment configurations in support of the SCARS initiative. The SCARS Engineer will interface with certification authorities, contribute to SCARS standards development, and ensure compliance across DTOC and ANG systems.
Impact
This position plays a critical role in aligning DTOC systems with SCARS standards, directly supporting the Air National Guard’s ability to execute secure, interoperable, and scalable Distributed Mission Operations (DMO). By driving certification efforts and contributing to architecture standardization, the SCARS Engineer ensures DTOC remains a trusted and compliant node in the broader LVC-OT training enterprise. The work performed in this role influences national-level readiness, cyber resiliency, and the future of joint simulation environments.
What you will do
- This person must be physically present at the DTOC in terms of work location.
- Will attend and represent all DTOC capabilities at monthly E-SECBs
- Collaborate with ANG locations and SCARS installation team during OPE
- installations
- Support SCARS site certification process
- Collaborate with HAF SCARS team and SCARS Prime contractor
- Present existing and planned system and subsystem architecture designs to the SECB, and make recommendations (as new SECB topics) for standardization based upon lessons learned from each.
- Submit SICC topics in abstract form for consideration by the SECB.
- Submit, perform and report cyber resiliency system and SICC engineering efforts including engineering estimates through implementation as approved by the SECB.
- Write papers and provide presentations to the SECB for topics, and alternate solutions for others’ topics to the SECB.
- Participate in the development of SCARS Standards.
- Provide input and feedback for all papers and drafts for revisions and additions to the standards.
- Participate in SECB meetings, tiger teams, focus groups, and on‐line forums.
- Vote on final drafts as recommendations from the SECB to the government for adoption into the SCARS Standards.
- Respond to data calls.
- Support MBSE Reference Architecture and style guide evaluations and discussions.
- Submit updates to baseline models to SCARS Prime for integration into the OTTI
- enterprise model
- Present SICC briefs for SECB assessment.
- Provide/recommend solutions to ANG OTS contractor IT team and 132d CTS Program Manager
What you must have
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or
- Master’s degree in a related field with 0 years of experience, or
- High school diploma or equivalent with 6+ years of relevant experience
Technical & Domain Expertise
- Strong knowledge of LAN/WAN systems, remote access, routers, bridges, copper/fiber cabling, and firewalls
- Experience researching and applying new technologies to solve technical challenges
- Understanding of distributed sites and simulator systems for LVC-OT events
- Prior experience in a DoD environment
- Ability to apply SCARS standards and hardware to DTOC environment and communicate effectively across technical communities
- Strong communication and public speaking skills; ability to provide constructive feedback on SCARS standards
Credentials & Clearance
- DISA ACAS Training/Certification
- Active Security+ Certification
- Current or Actic DoD Secret Security Clearance
Preferred Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or related field.
- 4+ years of engineering experience in network and system administration
- Top Secret Security Clearance
- Information Assurance Training (IAT) Level 2 Certification (ex. CompTIA Security+).
- Experience in aviation or DoD industry
- Understanding/Knowledge of Project Management principles – flow of project, constraints/restraints, having hard discussions with managers about delays, etc.
