This opportunity resides with All-Domain Operations (ADO), a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. All-Domain Operations comprises multi-domain operations, platforms and logistics, and intelligence operations.

Job Description

This is an UNPAID internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. DoD SkillBridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership. HII Mission Technologies Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full-time regular and permanent job with HII. 

 

Objective

The SkillBridge intern will train as a LVC Mission Planner, supporting HII Mission Technologies’ Distributed Training Operations Center (DTOC) contract and related business areas. The transitioning service member will be fully qualified to serve as an LVC Mission Planner, capable of independently leading mission planning, execution, and debrief cycles for the 132nd CTS/DTOC while integrating live, virtual, and constructive training environments in support of Air National Guard and USAF combat readiness. Under the supervision of HII Program Managers, and technical leads, the transitioning service member will gain hands‑on experience in:

  • LVC Mission Planning & Execution
    • Master LMOC-P and Environment Generator for scenario creation
    • Lead mission cycles: pre-brief, execution, debrief, documentation
    • Coordinate with NOC, LMON, and LMOC-P teams for Event Control Center ops
    • Create/distribute Mission Planning Cell packages per PWS standards
  • Technical Integration & Troubleshooting
    • Integrate virtual simulators into live training events
    • Conduct M&S, Network Integration, and Operational Tests
    • Diagnose/resolve LVC software/hardware issues and optimize configurations
  • Tactical Advisory & Instruction
    • Apply AFTTP 3-1 and Joint Warfare doctrine to LVC scenarios
    • Brief LVC capabilities and advise leadership on events/emerging tech
    • Serve as DTOC LVC SME in multi-unit planning sessions

 

  • All work products will be reviewed, validated, and released exclusively by HII employees to ensure full compliance with DoD SkillBridge and representation restrictions.

 

  • HII Mission Technologies will benefit from the intern’s operational insight, maintenance expertise, and disciplined approach to technical data accuracy and sustainment readiness.

 

Assumptions / Restrictions

  • SkillBridge interns do not represent HII to DoD or Government customers
  • All work performed is training only and reviewed, validated, and released solely by HII employees
  • Training will be conducted remotely or from an HII office, not on military installations
  • Interns may participate in real PM/BD tasks as long as:
    • They do not perform billable work
    • They do not independently deliver products to customers
    • They do not act as HII representatives
    • All customer interactions occur through HII employees only

Essential Job Responsibilities

Training Plan (12 Weeks / 90 Days)

 

PHASE 1: FOUNDATION (Weeks 1-3)

Week 1: Orientation & Systems Introduction

  • Complete security clearance, facility access, and safety training
  • Shadow DTOC operations through full mission cycle (planning to debrief)
  • Introduction to LMOC-P, Environment Generator, and LVC architecture

Week 2: Core Software Training

  • Hands-on LMOC-P interface and basic scenario building
  • Environment Generator for terrain and threat generation
  • Review AFTTP 3-1 and Joint Warfare Publications

Week 3: Mission Planning Integration

  • Assist in creating MPC packages under supervision
  • Participate in NOC, LMON, and LMOC-P coordination meetings
  • Milestone: Basic LMOC-P operator certification

 

PHASE 2: TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY (Weeks 4-6)

Week 4: Event Control Center Operations

  • Configure ECC setups with NOC/LMON personnel
  • Practice troubleshooting protocols and pre-mission system checks

Week 5: Scenario Development

  • Build complete training scenarios (live, virtual, constructive elements)
  • Conduct M&S and Network Integration testing under supervision

Week 6: Mission Execution Support

  • Serve as assistant Event Lead during live missions
  • Monitor execution and document technical issues
  • Milestone: Lead first mission pre-brief with mentor oversight

 

PHASE 3: TACTICAL APPLICATION (Weeks 7-9)

Week 7: Doctrine Integration

  • Apply AFTTP 3-1 tactics to scenario design
  • Develop CONOPS and planning products per DoD standards

Week 8: Mission Commander Responsibilities

  • Lead complete mission cycle independently (pre-brief, execution, debrief)
  • Create and distribute MPC packages without supervision

Week 9: Advanced Testing & Evaluation

  • Oversee Operational Tests for new LVC capabilities
  • Milestone: Independently execute full mission as Event Lead

 

PHASE 4: SME DEVELOPMENT (Weeks 10-12)

Week 10: Instructional Delivery

  • Deliver LVC academic briefings and mentor junior planners

Week 11: Leadership Advisory

  • Brief CTS/DTOC leadership on event outcomes and recommendations
  • Advise on emerging LVC technologies and capability enhancements

Week 12: Final Evaluation

  • Lead complex multi-unit DMO training event independently
  • Final Milestone: Certification as fully qualified LVC Planner SME

 

Continuous Throughout:

  • Weekly mentorship sessions with senior LVC SME
  • Bi-weekly progress reviews with Training Manager

 

 

Additional Goals

  • Build professional relationships within the PM, and DTOC support community (internal only)
  • Gain exposure to HII’s broader Mission Technologies portfolio

Strengthen readiness for future roles in LVC Training, Mission Planning, or C2‑related industry positions

Minimum Qualifications

Active-Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active-duty service. Applications accepted within final 12-months of active-duty US military service. Education and Experience dependent on Program of Instruction.

Education & Experience (choose one):

  • Bachelor's + 10 years experience
  • Master's + 8 years experience
  • High school/equivalent + 14 years experience

Required Qualifications:

  • LVC software experience (LMOC-P preferred)
  • Knowledge of AFTTP 3-1 and Joint Warfare Publications
  • Mission planning cell experience
  • Prior qualification as mission commander, section lead, or equivalent
  • Ability to create/disseminate CONOPS and planning products per AF/DoD standards
  • Distributed Mission Operations (DMO) training experience
  • Air-to-air fighter instructor pilot with operational experience
  • Current/qualified within last 3 years OR current LVC LMOC-P/War Room equivalent experience
  • U.S. citizen
  • Active DoD Secret clearance (must maintain)
