Job Description

Help lead the engineering decisions that shape U.S. Air Force aircraft modernization and weapon-system capability. HII Mission Technologies is seeking a Senior Avionics Systems Engineer to independently lead complex avionics and systems-integration activities supporting Air Force and Department of Defense acquisition programs.

You will work across aircraft architecture, requirements, hardware/software integration, acquisition engineering, Digital Engineering/MBSE, cybersecurity, interoperability, test, certification, and electromagnetic-spectrum considerations. This role provides the opportunity to turn complex technical challenges into executable recommendations for program managers, chief engineers, Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), and senior government and industry stakeholders.

The Senior level represents the next step in HII's avionics engineering progression, with increased responsibility for independent technical judgment, acquisition products, multidisciplinary integration, mentoring, technical leadership, and customer influence.

  • Independently lead avionics and systems-engineering activities across requirements, architecture, design, integration, verification, test, certification, fielding, modification, sustainment, and technical-risk management.
  • Translate operational, mission, and program needs into clear, measurable, traceable, and verifiable system and subsystem requirements.
  • Lead analysis of system architectures, hardware/software interfaces, subsystem dependencies, technical baselines, design alternatives, integration impacts, and technical risks.
  • Develop and lead technical reviews of RFP requirements, SOW/SOO technical content, SRDs, system/subsystem specifications, SEPs, DIDs/CDRLs, ECPs, and other acquisition engineering products.

  • Lead resolution of multidisciplinary integration issues spanning avionics, software, computer engineering, cybersecurity, interoperability, test, and EMS/spectrum disciplines.
  • Review and integrate ISPs, SSRAs, EMS management/spectrum-supportability products, interoperability requirements, cybersecurity requirements, and related engineering artifacts.
  • Evaluate airworthiness, system safety, OSS&E, cybersecurity, certification, interoperability, and mission-assurance implications of system modifications.
  • Lead or support developmental testing, integration testing, verification/validation, certification, deficiency resolution, and technical-risk reduction activities.
  • Lead technical content and engineering recommendations for SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, FCA/PCA, TIMs, working groups, program reviews, and other lifecycle engineering activities.
  • Develop and brief engineering alternatives, trade studies, technical risks, and recommendations to program managers, chief engineers, IPT leadership, and senior customers.
