Summary
This is an UNPAID internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. DoD SkillBridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership. HII Mission Technologies Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full-time regular and permanent job with HII.
Program Of Instruction
For this internship, the SkillBridge intern will train as an Information Technology Analyst within HII-Mission Technologies, reporting to a designated HII Supervisor, with the goal of refining and enhancing current Information Technology Analyst fundamentals and principles. The intern will be assigned special projects as needed.
Desired End State (3-4 month target)

At the end of four months, the intern will be able to establish accounts, conduct system maintenance, and perform system recovery.

The intern will develop a good understanding of implementing maintenance and upgrade procedures to minimize disruption of normal business functions. This includes:

planning, design, acquisition, installation and set-up, testing, accreditation, fielding, support, and disposition of IT equipment, components, and software

Mission Technologies will benefit from the military background of the SkillBridge intern and considers the SkillBridge internship an overall positive experience.

Training Plan
Phase 1 - Basics

Week 1: In processing, Introductions/office familiarization

Week 2: Intro to HII and customer teams – AFLCMC/WB
-
Week 3: Intro to IT Support to include planning, design, acquisition, installation and set-up, testing, accreditation, fielding, support, and disposition of IT equipment, components, and software

Week 4: Intro planning, scheduling, coordinating, installing, updating, and accomplishing day-today administration for software and hardware on multiple classified networks

Week 5: Intro managing IT network equipment to include switches, routers, and both basic and advanced configurations of firewalls
Phase 2 – Configuration & Optimization of Networks
-
Week 6-7: Configure and troubleshoot Video Teleconferencing and Voice over IP telephone systems

Week 8-9: Support analysis and testing to ensure equipment and software additions and upgrades compatible with existing infrastructure
-
Week 10-11: Optimize the function and performance of network hardware and software to ensure IT system availability, integrity, efficiency, and reliability

Week 12-13: Troubleshoot, identify network problems and develop, coordinate, and implement corrective actions
Phase 3 – Network Troubleshooting & Maintenance and Security Administration

Week 14: Support tracking of network equipment and software technology obsolescence and help analyze and prepare trades for future maintenance and replacement in support of IT budget planning

Week 15: Provide help desk support for all IT networks and communications systems for on-site and off-site personnel

Week 16: Support IT system back-up, data restoration, and disaster recovery

Week 17: Support basic maintenance for printers, scanners, monitors, and Keyboard Video Monitor (KVM) switches

Week 18: Preparation of required network cyber (IA) documentation

Week 19: Developing SOPs, and implementing audits, threat and vulnerability assessments, and applying security-related software tools to manage and control classified information systems

Week 20: Resolving information systems security incidents

Minimum Qualifications
Active-Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active-duty service to actively participate. May apply up to 12 months prior to separation or retirement from active-duty military service.
- Must have TS/SCI security clearance
- Must have Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience maintaining IT systems or a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience maintaining IT systems.
- DoD 8570 Information Assurance Management Level II certification, or equivalent, and 4 years of classified information systems experience working on DoD ACAT I, ACAT II, or ACAT.
